Another weekend out of town, this time to see
Hamilton in Columbus, drove up the number of times I was at restaurants.
Wednesday, February 13 - I made one new recipe and one old recipe for dinner. The old recipe was another personal favorite from the
Moosewood Favorites, Black Bean Ful. This is quick and easy and tastes good with pita, which is how we ate it.
The new recipe was
Smashed Root Vegetables with Mustard Vinaigrette, which was yet another recipe from the killer January/February 2019 Eating Well. M loves root vegetables in general, and of this recipe she said "I would eat as much of that as you made." That's a high endorsement.
Thursday, February 14 - For Thursday night dinner we had
Tomato & Onion Salad with Crispy Tofu, which is from the September/October 2017 Eating Well and has turned up on the dinner table periodically ever since. The tofu is dipped in (in order), flour, eggs and a panko/parmesan blend and fried up, then served on top of a tomato & onion blend. I also threw in a bunch of spinach to the salad, because why not?
After dinner we went to
Deagan's for a romantic Valentine's beer and dessert.
Friday, February 15 - We took M's mother and sister out for dinner at
Milestone 229 in Columbus before going to Hamilton. The building was architecturally interesting, but as happens with so many slightly upscale places, the food was firmly in the "I wouldn't say no if you wanted to go, but it wouldn't occur to me to go there again" category.
Saturday, February 16 - First we met M's parents, sister and nephew for breakfast at the
Northstar Cafe in Westerville. I had a competently executed breakfast burrito, but it wasn't as good as
the vegi enchilada at Bittersweet Kitchen was.
After an first ever trip (and hopefully last) to
IKEA we had a brief snack at the cafe then went to M's sister's house. After a pleasant afternoon, we went out for dinner once her husband returned from his activities. The chosen restaurant was
Saigon Asian Bistro, which had both pho and Chinese food. I had some General Tso's for the first time in a long time, and enjoyed it before I drove back home.
Sunday, February 17 - M had Monday off so she stayed in Columbus. That meant on Sunday night I could make a recipe that had a lot of pasta, which she doesn't care for. I went with the
March 2019 as the first new recipe from the March 2019 Eating Well. The clam and tomato sauce was enjoyable, but I think that the anchovy variant I already had in my cookbook is much better so I probably won't make it again.
Monday, February 18 - For Monday dinner I went with a recurring favorite, the
Stir-Fried Chicken & Broccoli with Mango Chutney from the March/April 2018 Eating Well. There were no leftovers.
