April 10 is the 100th day of the year. Since I started tracking on January 2, this means we're 99 days in, which is enough to start drawing some conclusions. So, conclusions:
I'm still eating out a lot. Since I'm not tracking my breakfasts and lunches unless I make something unusual or eat out, 34 restaurant meals isn't 1/3 of everything, but it still seems high. However, when I
compare to 2015, when I tracked every time I ate out, it's pretty similar. In fact, I had 34 meals eaten out through 100 days in 2015 as well, and while there are probably some methodical differences, they aren't substantial to make big differences. In other words, I haven't changed my habits much, if at all, in the last four years. Going forward 2015 diverges with a lot more travel, so I'm not sure further comparisons will be super helpful, but I'll dig into it.
Friday, April 5 - We ate at
Deagan's for the third time on the year. This, of course, made me curious about how many restaurants I've repeated, so now I have that stat too. Anyway, I had a seared salmon with a side caesar salad. I really do like Deagan's.
Saturday, April 6 - M loves root vegetables, she loves slaws, and she loves the taste of sesame, both as seeds and as oil. As such, after a day at the museum and walking in nature, the
Radish & Carrot Slaw with Toasted Sesame Dressing from the April 2019 Eating Well seemed like a no brainer to try. M loved it, I was not quite as enthused but will be making it again.
While a new recipe is fun, sometimes the tried and true are good too. I hedged my bets by making the Pan Seared Sea Scallops from
660 Curries. This remains M's favorite thing that I've ever made for her, with a luscious peanut sauce server over spinach. If you have this cookbook, try it out.
Sunday, April 7 - We had another new recipe on Sunday with
Honey BBQ Roasted Root Vegetables from the April 2019 Eating Well. M and I both enjoyed this as well, although I'm not sure making my own barbecue sauce was really worth the effort. Ultimately, it was another fun way to make roasted vegis. I also baked some salmon I got during the Lenten sales.
Monday, April 8 - Taco night is the best night. We had home-made guacamole, refried beans, ground turkey taco meat and an assortment of toppings. M seared the tortillas in a pan. Victory.
Tuesday, April 9 - Apparently it was barbecue week, as
Moosewood Favorites offered Texas Barbecue Bean Soup, which I had only made once before. It's a pretty solid way to have beans and vegetables without making it into chili, and it generates leftovers to boot.
Wednesday, April 10 - Another recipe I love out of
Moosewood Favorites is the Mediterranean Lentil Salad, which mixes French (green) lentils with an assortment of fresh vegis and a light dressing to provide a very delicious meal that makes a lot.
