Last year nobody was allowed to attend the
Indians Home Opener due to the ongoing pandemic. This year, they allowed in an extremely limited pool of attendees. I believe the stadium was at something like 15% capacity. In any event, I once again I had the option to buy a home opener ticket through my work, but since the opener was prior to my having gotten the second
vaccine shot, let alone waiting two weeks for full potency, I had to decline. Since this was through work, this means that I had another email exchange with the unfortunately named
Ashley Madison.
It actually got worse in that I forgot about the home opener and didn't watch it on the television or listen on the radio. As such, it's the first Indians Home Opener that I totally missed since
2003. I couldn't even tell you who won without looking it up, although I do recall that the weather wasn't great. Oh well, maybe next year.
On the season ticket front, the Tribe offered to let us roll our April tickets over to 2022, which since basically nobody in our group was vaccinated by that point we opted to do. When it came time to make the same decision for our May tickets, most of our group had been vaccinated so we held a much belated ticket draft for May through September last Monday night.
Since I didn't have a baby in late fall 2019 when I moved up to
15 games out of 81 and now I do, I offered 5 of my tickets to the group in return for credit for 2022. I gave another one to a friend in the ticket group as a slightly belated wedding gift, and 1 more was rolled to 2022 just because of the missed April games. The other 8 tickets I picked for this season. Given that babies are very time consuming, we'll see how many I actually use and how many I give away to others, but I hope to get to at least a few games. Due to the reduced capacity, for at least May our seats are a few rolls ahead of their usual location. The Tribe will evaluate that on a month by month basis
So to recap:
- maybe 8 games this year
- my money for 6 games rolled over to 2022
- 1 game gifted to a friend
The likelihood of me doing travel baseball this year is pretty close to zero, but for at least a few months the Blue Jays are still
playing in Buffalo, which would be a neat box to mark off, and there's still a new park in Texas I haven't been to.
In the meantime, my preferred team, the Oakland A's, started off the season with six straight losses, tying their worst start in history. Then they won 13 in a row, which was their third longest win streak ever, to move into first place, where this sit as of this writing. Their
longest streak ended up in a movie. I'd settle for a ring.
