One of my coworkers says that babies are at maximum adorableness in the five month range, when they can laugh and interact meaningfully with you but can't actually move so you're not exhausted chasing them. We took another small step toward the "exhausted chasing them" phase on Tuesday (6/22) because Birdie finally figured out how to roll over. She demonstrated this quite effectively when M put her in her crib on her back and went to grab something. When she returned, Birdie was on her chest looking around - so either she figured out how to roll over or there's a ghost moving the baby around.
Prior to this milestone, Birdie's self-propelled movements mostly involved spinning herself on her back in a circle. She often managed to turn herself 180 degrees or more from her starting position. She also less occasionally would kind of slide on her back a short distance in one direction. She'd also roll from side to side, but until Tuesday she could never quite get past her elbow propping her up to finish the roll.
Naturally, she's not turned herself over again since Tuesday, but I'm sure it'll happen again soon. It's not where you start, it's where you finish.
