Stand! Redux

Birdie has been standing since mid-February, but although back then I wrote that it was "unassisted", it was more precisely "unassisted by us." Anytime she wanted to stand up she was pulling herself up on the furniture, or later via the wall, and then letting go to balance on her own two feet. This didn't change even as she began walking.

She achieved true unassisted standing this past Sunday, April 17, while we were at my parents house. She fell over in the middle of the hallway, and promptly pushed herself up and rose to her feet without touching the wall or anything else. I expressed surprise, and my father noted that he'd seen it the day before but hadn't realized it was a first.

In terms of walking, it felt like Birdie really kicked it into a new gear while we were at my parents' house. She barely crawled at all, and she walked with increasing balance and speed as she explored the entire first floor of their house. She also excitedly investigated all the kitchen drawers and cupboards; some hasty childproofing was done with strong rubber bands. She also looked out all sorts of ground floor windows, a feature our own home is rather lacking in. She left hand prints and later a tongue print all over the front storm door while we were loading the car up to leave. My parents loved every minute of it.

Birdie also enjoyed her official seder while we were visiting my parents, although she got a pass on all the "youngest child" duties for now. She was unimpressed by matzo.

Birdie had her 15 month checkup before we went to visit my parents, and weighed in at 21 pounds 13 ounces (I think, I didn't write it down). This apparently was smack dab on the growth curve, just as it was at the one year mark. She has a mouthful of teeth and is eating more and more "adult" foods. We gave her some chicken for the first time last week. She's also a big fan of mandarin oranges.
