The Eddie From Ohio concert was frickin' brilliant.
Jen Watson & I were a bit late because when I went to pick Jen at her new apartment it turns out that the address she gave me was off. By quite a bit. I managed to figure it out eventually (how can you not know your own address?) but it did kill our buffer time, so we came in during the second song. Fortunately Mike saved us two seats right up front.
The show was awesome, although I'm slightly confused as to why only a bunch of old people were there (late 30s early 40s) and so few young people. I originally planned only to buy one CD. I ended up getting three from Donna the FruHead merch girl (I know her from FruWeek in 2000). Boom goes the disposable cash! Mike's girlfriend Meredith is the scary kind of FruHead but is otherwise very nice and has excellent taste in music. I'm continually impressed by Mike's good taste in women; although most of them weren't people I'd date, I've always walked saying "that girl is so perfect for Mike." Anyway, despite this post it is not necessary to be a FruHead to dig Eddie From Ohio. You just have to like clever lyrics, amazing lead vocals, and the what is hands down the single best drummer I have seen ever anywhere. I'd put Eddie the drummer against anyone I've ever seen in any genre for drumming skill. His drum solo was brilliant. I needed a cigarrete afterwards. Make plans to see them when they are next in town. Or I'll hit you gently about the head with a hard object :-)
By the way, that's Mike Mann, not
exilejedi, just in case you were confused about Mike having a girlfriend. And Jen says "hi" right back to
exilejedi and
aquamindy.
Post Eddie
After the show Jen & I had gelato. After I dropped her off I hung out at WRUW with Jim Szabo for a while. I find it somewhat disturbing that when parked at WRUW, I parked right behind Szabo and
[A] we both had WRUW-based vanity plates - "Cynic51" and "Jazzbo"
[B] we both drive the same model car - Honda Accord Lx - although not the same year.
I told Szabo I appreciated him not being an asshole and he told me that only person he ever was an asshole to he married fifteen years ago and they've been happily fighting ever since. If I ever meet his wife, I'll be sure to check on that :-)
On Saturday
Got up, went to the gym for weights & bike. Weight post workout: 226. Target: 215, although I am thinking of adjusting that downward. Then I went to Li Wah with several of my coworkers and had dim sum, which was a new experience and most excellent. We should all go together and do it sometime. BTW, Liz, what was the name of the chinese place down in the chinatown district that you and Mike took me right before I left for boot? It had all sorts of fish tanks in the window?
Afterwards, I did Record Librarian stuff at WRUW. I also applied for my spring semester show, which will be a freeform show called "Delirious Delirium". I'm thinking ska in the summer. Then I went and did fraternity stuff at PhiKap. Thanks to some financial stuff I'm doing for the chapter, it looks like we'll be able to pay off the loan we took out to remodel the kitchen by the end of May instead of 28 months as scheduled, so I feel pretty good about that because I did 99% of the work that made that possible.
Since then I've had no real urge to move, so I did things like paying bills and other useful type things that don't involve moving. Like listening to my new EfO CDs. I also went through the old 2003 ethnic eats book and used it to highlight all the places in the 2004 ethnic eats book that me or my sister had been to. Which reminds me:
gieves, have you ever heard of a place called "His Majesty's Tea Room" out east (Madison)? I saw it while flipping through the book and it sounded kind of cool.
Sunday - the last episode of Blues Delirium, or at least I think so. Plus I'm subbing the classical show again.
