Birdie's Bedtime Viewing

Jul 15, 2023 17:35

Bedtime is a constantly evolving activity with Birdie, especially when it comes to the pop culture she absorbs while she winds down. Now our bedtime books tend to be whatever books are currently fascinating Birdie, which typically means the newest library books or a book she just plucked off the shelf for the first time in a long time, or ever.

This is even more true with her bedtime videos, which have turned over substantially since my last update. Basically, we squeeze about 20 minutes of screen time into bedtime, and the only other time she gets to look at a screen is during Facetime with grandparents. At this moment, her favored three videos are are all dance videos:

Birdie did some dancing with her umbrella last weekend at her cousin's Little League All-Star game and managed to damage her (very cheap child-sized adorable) umbrella by banging it into the ground. We consider it very likely that she likes this video because it reminds her of the splash park, and if you want to claim that she is imitating Gene while she splashes, who are we to say you're wrong?

That's two consecutive Gene Kelly videos. Birdie loves Gene Kelly, which is appropriate since he's technically my fraternity brother. Birdie once wailed that "I want to watch Gene Kelly" when she was in the middle of one of her rare meltdowns.

Birdie has a bright green sequined top hat (bought cheaply as a St. Patrick's Day decoration by M many years ago). When she watches this video, and often when she's not watching it, she will grab the top hat and recreate the hat motion from this video. She'll also do the leg kicks. It's very entertaining.

All of this doesn't include Bluey, which probably merits its own post. Or several of them.
