Oh My God
Al Di Meola put on a phenomenal concert. I was in awe, it was easily one of the two or three best concerts I have been to this year. He led a quintet featuring a Cuban defector on bass, an Argentinian expatriate on keyboards, a guy from the Bronx on percusson and another guy from Milwaukee on drums. Al was being billed as the best guitar player in the world - and I believed it while watching him, because he blew me away. Old stuff, new stuff, his stuff, covered stuff, it all was good. He was at his best when he sped up the guitar to speeds that only the very best can reach. I went fanboy. I bought a CD. I got an autograph. Oh wow.
And I still have Sharon Jones this weekend. It's going to be awesome.
