Odeon dying...

Dec 15, 2005 23:46

The Odeon is closing. I would have thought that Peabodys or the Agora would be the first place to go under due to the HOB, but it looks like the Odeon will beat them to it. I can't really bemoan their death without being a hypocrite given that I probably spent more money at the HOB than the Odeon this year, which has more to do with the availability of free tickets at the Odeon than the respective merits of the venues.

Anyway, in honor of the death of rock & roll, here is a list of my top 5 favorite Odeon shows, in chronological order.

December 1999 - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy w/the Blue Hawaiins. Still the most crowded Odeon show I have ever seen. The band was at the height of their post-Swingers fame and put on an amazing show. Without question one of my top ten favorite shows of all time.

June 2000 - Moxy Fruvous w/Sarah Harmer. This was the second time I saw the Fru and the first time I saw Sarah. It kicked off a week of following the Fru around with my sister, JohnD and Bybluk.

July 2003 - Reel Big Fish. This was the second time I caught the fish. Jean and I were deep in the heart of a hot sweaty mosh pit on a night where the was 'raining' inside due to the humidity.

October 2004 - Jamie Cullum - Elise & I caught a really good jazz show in Jamie's first Cleveland appearance. Elise even got a kiss from Jamie out of it.

May 2005 - Mike Doughty - Of all the times I have seen Mike D I think is my favorite. He kept the stupidity down to a minimum and put on a tight set.

And now that's enough posts for the night.
