Identity Theft and a quick life lesson

Yes, I am an idiot. I errantly gave my SSN to a spam Wachovia telephone account (1-866-813-2508). There was enough info before hand that made me think it was legit, yet stupid me fell for it. And here I thought intelligent people didn't fuck up such things. WRONGThat's not the point of this post, though (yes, I let Equifax, Wachovia, and my ( Read more... )

Feeling more awake? That's definitely a confusing ending. What's up?

That said, what a pleasant surprise -- the random update from you! Sucks about the identity theft and the guy pulling away. But the connection with Annikah is awesome, and maybe even to the point of hope-inspiring.

Hrmm, I said that that was all I was saying here. It's pretty personal and needs a friends-only discussion, which this post is not. If you want to know, send a message or hit me up on gchat.

I <3 being around Annikah, because there's not confusion or poor translation (there are a few other friends I feel this way around, so it's not like "omgs she iz da onlee wun!!!") The identity theft is ftl, but reacting promptly to is has been my best ever. And the guy pulling away sitch is going to right itself in due time ;)

Good friends are good. Bad friends who are faking are bad, but I always cut them loose quickly enough.

I think everyone is vulnerable to scams - that's why they work so well.

Is he pulling away because of his peers? That's the only thing I can come up with, and if so he's a little bitch for it. There is a world outside of that place last time I checked.

I think my quick reaction proves that I am not just some ol' idiot they tricked. Within 3 hours, I had already reported it to Equifax ^_^

I am not sure why he is pulling away. It's just very minimal, inconsistent text convos (unlike before), no more wanting to hang out, forgetting stuff we planned. I think he's just pulling away because he just doesn't know what he wants, but I sure won't be brought along with his indecision. I don't handle wishywashy well. ^_~

omg identity theft is so skeery! i get freaked out about it sometimes but then i'm like, "wait, my credit cards are totally maxed out, i have $65,000 in student loans & fucking $30.00 in savings... motherfuckers can HAVE my identity"!! hooray for you for being all proactive on that shit!!

Yessss, it's very scary. I mean, it sounds stupid to say this, but never give out your SSN to anyone for any reason. No institute will ask you for your WHOLE SSN over the phone or email.

Hahah, you should accidentally leave your SSN card just laying around outside to see if someone will steal your identity and make your credit rating better!

No need to be scared. Easy easy easy easy to take care of. Just an annoying hassle. Werk werk werk, take care of business, protection! Contact contact contact, werk werk werk, clear up name, werk werk werk. Everyone and their mother, business-wise, can and will be helpful to you with identity and fraud prevention. IRS, Banks, Creditors, Tax companies (Equifax, Transunion, and the other one), all have departments and customer service lines that handhold you through the process about what you need to do.
