What do I do now?
Well, I posted my first message, now I need to put up my avatar; but haven't a clue how. How do I get those cute little mood emoticons? How do I add links? All my questions seem to have the same theme. This old lady don't know what she is doing here. Three twelve hour nights nursing coming up so maybe I can figure it out on Thursday.

The avatars I use have been found in various LJ communities, where people have taken pics and shrunken them to the size LJ wants. The avatar needs to be hosted on a web hosting site, like www.photobucket.com in order to be used here. I have an account there if you want me to host it, but it might also be good for you to start a free account there as well. You'll need to use a site like that if you want to post any other pictures on LJ, as well.
As for moods, log in to your account, then look on your userinfo page. At the top there is a 'journal' option (alongside "My LJ, Journal, Picture, Profile" etc) which brings a dropdown menu. Hover over that, then click 'edit journal style' from that menu. Click on the Look and Feel tab, and there will be options for Mood Icons. I know there's another way of doing it, but the LJ format has changed since the last time I did this..
