Hard to say without knowing what sort of focus s/he's looking for. My college textbook on the topic was Salem Possessed: The Social Origins of Witchcraft by Paul Boyer, but I can't say with any certainty that that's the best option.
One useful place to start might be to look through the books that turn up in this search on Amazon.com, and read the comments to see how helpful regular people think the book is, and what level it's aimed at, and so forth. Then you can take a short list of titles and see what you can get at the library, either locally or through interlibrary loan.
