DearSanta Christmas exchange - time to sign up!!!

It's the DearSanta deadline imminently for the usual, low pressure fic/art exchange. It's small, multi-fandom (though all participants must be willing to write/draw in a common fandom - Harry Potter - to help with matching people up with a secret Santa) and for writers only has a minimum of 500 words. The deadline is today, I think, but I'm sure

I wish there were more writing fests that weren't exchanges; I've had some bad experiences with them, and prefer to just have some prompts or something, just so I can write for the festival without worrying about the whole exchange aspect. I look forward to seeing whatever you create, though! :)

I do know what you mean there - and I do worry when I'm writing for someone I don't really know at all that I'll write something they really don't like. I mean, we all have different takes on the characters and how they react.

Is yuletide an exchange, or just a Christmas writing fest? Have you ever tried that one?

Perhaps there's a need for a halfway house sort of thing, where a number of community members submit ideas anonymously, and then they're collated and published, and people then sign up for them.

I just checked the yuletide FAQ and - yes, it's an exchange also. No, I've never participated; I'm not sure I could write for any fandom they consider "obscure"!
