Personal relationships differ from person to person. Up until Eric, I never felt compelled by the other person to want to be better. I didn't care because despite selfless acts done when they were needed most, my life was empty... Even with them.
I guess the most important thing you can do is critically analyze everything as though you were a third person. Sometimes it takes perspective also to see what you have and be happy with it. Sometimes perspective took me off my feet with shame.
Anyway, I hope your father is comfortable and you can continue to communicate.
My dad is going down hill as well.. It's a long story.

I'm not geographically far. The trouble is that his wife is a total narcicsist, so any time I come over there to hang out, the event becomes all about her. She reigns conversations, interrupts people, etc. etc. It's difficult for me to keep my mouth shut.
My sister and I have gone over there on specific days and times she's at work and that seems to help. Trouble still therein lies in my crazy schedule.
Alas, such is life.
