i'm not entirely sure what's going on. right foot, big toe. along the left side of the nail, it's red and slightly swollen, shiny, and throbbing like a mothahluvah. it's definitely not a blister, and it's not from my shoes. it looked and felt fine when i got up this morning, but when i woke up from my "afternoon nap" (which was almost 3 hours on the couch this afternoon), it hurt so bad i could barely walk. i didn't walk into anything all day, didn't drop anything on it, didn't wear tight shoes... so who knows.
Might you have an ingrown toenail or something like that? I've had problems from toenails that weren't ingrown but which were digging anyway. Treatment (got this from my doctor) is to soak the feet in warm water a lot and stroke the skin to push it away from the nail. Keep doing that a few times a day until the nail and skin are reconciled; then cover them with a sock to give them some privacy, and wear ear plugs so you don't have to listen. Watch out in case they light cigarettes and give you a hotfoot.
