Surreal reality...

This morning, I had the wonderful task of sitting down and doing a performance evaluation with a couple of staff members who had been trialling for a promotion at work. My manager was there, as well as another Team Leader, and the two staff who were trialling. For me, this is at the end of my 3rd night of 12 hour shifts, so I wasn't exactly at my ( Read more... )

Isn't it a bit of a conflict to interview your best friend and former roomate for a promotion?

At least he got it, and you didn't have to deny it to him! That would have sucked.

Can I have a promotion too?

Yeah, but it wasn't actually an interview as such. The decision was made before the review, and that was a mutual decision made by all of the team leaders and our manager. The meeting this morning was just a discussion on the trial they did, and their thoughtson their performance.

Wow, I'll bet that was strange. Well done, though. And good on ya, Shane!

I'm glad to hear it went well. Gives me hope. I might have to job-interview one of my friends in September, and I really don't think I could handle that at all.

Luckily for me this was a mutual decision type of thing. I was just one of 5 voices making the decision. That made it a lot easier
