I was originally going to have to skimp on the amp a little, but with the extra income from the tax, I can spend some more on it. My DVD player has optical out, so I most certainly will be getting something that can support it. I figure I'll spend around $1200 or so on the amp, and $800 or so on the speakers, but depending on how it all goes, that will of course be open to change...

All I can say about HECS is that I'm glad I did my uni course when I did. One more liberal government and it'll be ten grand a year for science.

I'm in the same boat as you with HECS. I got in at the right time and had a realistic HECS rate, hence the reason it's paid off...
