And this is his breaking point.

The point where he can no longer run, no longer hide, no more than he can hide from one plus two makes three. The point where he can’t rationalise things away anymore, can’t justify them; the point where he has to face the truth.

The point where so much of the world simply crumples and burns and fades away, like ( Read more... )

Aw lovely! It took me right to get to the end to get the waltz metaphor! Very appropriate. Though the tango is in 4 time so could not be put in the waltz- sorry, that's nitpicking! No, I really liked it. Though I take it this isn't the one we were talking about on MSN with Rosie!

Wow. I'm seriously speechless at this. This is just brilliant. I love the way you write Jack and the Doctor here, the insights into the relationship, the one plus two makes three. And Rose's absolute and instinctive trust in Jack, well-deserved.

Really love this. Why hasn't it been posted more widely? better_with_3 would love it, and you should post it on A Teaspoon and an Open Mind as well, so I can favourite it there. As it is, I only found this because you signed up for the Rose ficathon.

To be honest, I never thought it was that good - I only really posted it up here because I needed to put it somewhere to enter the challenge, and since here was convenient...

If you think it's worth it, though, I'll look into spreading it around. Thanks so much for the lovely review - it really means a lot to me.

Believe me, it's not only good; it's one of the best OT3s I've read. I love your analysis of the relationship, the nature of the Doctor, the way the dance interweaves the action. This hit me between the eyes as so very true:

He loves Rose, and the reason he’ll never admit that isn’t anything to do with the age difference or the species difference - neither of those matter unless you let them - and it isn’t anything to do with wanting to protect her. It isn’t anything to do with some crazy notion of abusing authority or power (like Rose doesn’t have him wrapped round her little finger anyway).

Purely and simply, the Doctor won’t let anyone get that close to him. Ever.

And I loved the climax of the wading-through-acid scene:

‘Here,’ said the Doctor, sliding his precious leather jacket off and slipping it around Jack’s shoulders. ‘You should keep warm. And you’re not walking back to the TARDIS ( ... )
