I'm just starting to get used to tumblr, to enjoy some of the stuff it offer, but I completely agree. It is not an adequate replacement, at most it offers things perpendicular to lj, that should be seen as complementary (if one has the time to share between both, if one doesn't... well, one should decide which sort of fannish interaction they prefer).

I do like what tumblr has to offer but I wonder if I would have become so addicted if my flist wasn't so dead.

Well, don't feel guilty about not updating. I don't either. I do like both, but tumblr has been rubbing me the wrong way and lj really used to get it so right.
