» History: Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, sex and sexuality. According to Hesiod's Theogony she was born when Kronos cut off Ouranos' genitals and threw them into the sea. Sea foam rose and spread around, and from that foam emerged Aphrodite, a fully grown beautiful woman. She never had a childhood or a mother. She was beautiful and the other gods feared her looks might cause jealousy, violence and even war, so Zeus married her to Hephaestus who was crippled and physically unattractive.

Unhappy with her marriage and unable to see past the superficial, Aphrodite was never faithful to the humorless god. She had affairs with both gods and men alike but was especially drawn to Ares and his violent nature. Their relationship was very passionate and became symbolic of the destructive attraction between men and women; love and war. The affair between Aphrodite and Ares caused tension amongst the gods. Helios found out about them and revealed the relationship to Hephaestus, who created a trap for the two. He positioned a bronze net upon her bed and caught them in a naked embrace for all to see, which left the two of them a source of ridicule and laughter of the other gods at Mt. Olympus. Ares is still the closest to true love Aphrodite will ever find, and she will always return to him no matter what.

Aphrodite also became Adonis' lover and a surrogate mother to him. She found the baby under a Myrrh tree and noticing his potential beauty she took pity on the child. Taking Adonis to Hades for Persephone she asked for her to take care of the child, but later on Persephone fell in love with Adonis and would not give him back to Aphrodite when she returned for him. The argument between Aphrodite and Persephone had to be solved by Zeus, who decided Adonis would spend a third of the year with Aphrodite, a third of the year with Persephone, and a third of the year with whomever he wishes. Adonis chose to spend the last third of the year with Aphrodite. Adonis loved to hunt and Aphrodite took up the sport to spend time with him. One time she was not with him as he and his hunting dogs tracked a wild boar, and when Adonis' spear only lightly wounded the animal, it gored Adonis with it's tusks. Aphrodite rushed to him but was too late to save him, and he died in her arms. Adonis went back to the underworld and to Persephone, but as soon as Aphrodite heard of him being there she rushed back to Hades only to bicker with Persephone again. Zeus had to come between the two once more, and he ordered Adonis to spend half of the year with Persephone and the other half with Aphrodite. Aphrodite still loves Adonis dearly, almost as much as she loves Ares, and enjoys his company immensely. She will return to him whenever possible.

At one point Aphrodite was jealous of the mortal woman Psyche and asked Eros to use his golden arrows to cause Psyche to fall in love with the ugliest man on earth. Eros agreed, but then fell in love with Psyche on his own, by accidentally pricking himself with a golden arrow. Aphrodite even went as far as giving an almost impossible task for Psyche, hoping she'd perish while trying to succeed in the task, but amazingly enough she survived. Aphrodite was even more outraged at her survival and success. She managed to convince Psyche to believe she'd lost some of her beauty, and that Psyche would have to travel to Hades to ask Persephone to give her some. A string of events lead to Psyche being made immortal by Zeus, and Aphrodite eventually danced at the wedding of Psyche and Eros.

She also played a part in the original cause of the Trojan War, offering Helen of Troy to Paris and igniting his passion for her. Aphrodite also persuaded Ares to join the Trojan faction, while the other gods sided with the Greeks.

» Personality: With Aphrodite beauty really is only skin deep. She is vain, narcissistic and ill-tempered. She enjoys watching other people suffer and likes to meddle with things, just to get a reaction out of the people she's playing with. Beauty is everything to her and she takes great pride in her looks. She's never seen without her makeup and hair done, and her wardrobe is filled with quality clothes. Aphrodite knows she's beautiful and she uses her looks to her advantage as often as she possibly can. Men's weakness for beauty is a source of great amusement to Aphrodite and she toys with it mercilessly. She's very jealous of other beautiful women, especially if they get more attention than she does.

Initially she is easily approachable, but there is always something a bit fake about her smile. There's an air of pretentiousness around her if you do not know her well, but that's her way of keeping people from getting too close. When she likes someone the hard edge in her voice will disappear and her demeanor changes to a much softer one. Aphrodite will be friendly to the people around her up until the moment they anger her.

Easily offended, she will snap at anyone who dares to anger her no matter where or when. To her apologizing is like admitting you were wrong and she will do whatever it takes to not have to sink that low. No one holds a grudge as well as she does - forgive and forget is a completely unfathomable idea to her. She's very childish when it comes to disagreements and arguments and there's no such thing as a "low blow" when she's angered. She will do whatever she can to get under the skin of whoever has crossed her. She might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she can certainly be very vicious.

There is something good in her, however. She's fiercely loyal to her friends and some of her lovers and will go to great lengths to please them. A very generous friend and lover, nothing is too much when pampering the ones she cares for. This all comes from a strong need to be liked and approved by the people she deems "worthy" of her time and affection. If a person she cares for seems to enjoy someone else's company more than hers, Aphrodite will be jealous.

One might say she's slightly co-dependent and being alone is not something she enjoys. Aphrodite loves to gossip and discuss the things that are happening around her and one just simply cannot do that while all alone. Never the one to keep a secret - unless it's either one of her's or a friend's - she's a great source of gossip and slander. If none of her friends are around she'll just simply find someone new to talk to. She might be a lot of things, but she's far from shy.

» Sample Journal: Mortality. Really? How boring. Does this mean I'm going to get old, wrinkly and ugly? I'd rather not, thank you very much. Is this the part where I'm supposed to say mortality has it's moments, that it's "actually not that bad"? Well, that's not going to happen. I didn't ask for this and I don't want this.

If there's something good in all of this, it's the club. Waitressing is far from any kind of dream job, but I enjoy watching the sweaty, sticky men drooling after the half-naked dancers squirming on the stage. Reminds me of Rome. I love it.

» Sample Roleplay: The floor was cold under her bare feet, but she didn't even notice. All her attention was focused on the full body mirror in front of her. It was merciless, as were the sharp eyes that inspected the reflection, not missing a single thing.

The first thing to notice was the pale blond hair that had been curled and hung now to her shoulders, the strands of hair tickling the skin they found. There was a small spark in her blue eyes and the makeup she'd spent so long perfecting was impeccable. Not to mention the little black dress she had bought just a few hours ago. It clung to her frame, enhancing all the right curves and hiding all the small flaws that no one needed to see.

This would be the first time she went out after waking up in this strange place. And not just out, no, she was going to go and enjoy every moment of it. She had rebelled against having to be here stuck with all the other gods and goddesses, but the time for feeling sorry for herself was over. There was so much to see and do, and surely a place as dirty and sinful as this would offer some great entertainment. And if not, one could always do their best to stir up things.

Aphrodite smiled at the woman in the mirror, satisfied with what she saw. "Tonight," she winked at her reflection, "is going to be perfect. Tonight we party like there's no tomorrow." She put on her high heels and turned to give one last look at the mirror. Yes, tonight would be fantastic.
