Certifications

I'm looking at getting some certifications to prove that I know shit. I realize that some of them are a joke (A+) but they're a foot in the door with more employers. I don't need to discuss the merits of having them, or not having them. What I need to know is where I can go to plan out which courses I need to study for. I'm having a super hard ( Read more... )

a+/MCP are the most basic ones to start with and i have heard MCP is pretty much the same thing as A+ just with more of a focus on ms and less of a focus on old technologies

from there, n+ if you want to network, MCSE/MCSA then MCITP or MCDBA if you want to administer/manage/support

try to get out of fixing and into administering/configuring/managing

Also, MCSE is in the process of being phased out and won't apply to many future servers versions, for example Server 2008 isn't covered by it.

there are two upgrade tests that basically makes an MCSE a 2008 certified admin or whatever the fuck

so it's not totally worthless

honestly, specialize in databases or wireless if you want to make good money. A+ and MCSA has only led me into malware cleaning for corporations at 50k :( good i guess, but not stellar
