Spanking children, even if it is just a means of punishment or discipline, causes the child to develop fear and possibly hatred towards the guardian. there are other means of enforcing rules and getting your message across to a child. all hitting your child does it teach them to do it to their children and make it acceptable to do it to others when they have done something wrong.
If there really is NO other way for the child to learn, then the last resort may be spanking, but there are always other ways.

I am against spanking. No matter how poorly the child is behaving- its not going to help. The child will only start to hate their gaurdian, and fear them. The child will also start fearing other adults. They will start to think this is good.. and normal behavior, and most likley hit other people.

The exception to this is if the child hits or bites someone. In that case, I give full permission for the gaurdian to hit, pull hair, bite, kick, or slap back. Not necessarily with all their strength- but enough to hurt them a little. Then the child will know how it feels- and hopefully stop.
