Okay, so I just had a long talk with my mom. One of our famous daily talks. It was about religion. I seem to have many conversations revolving around this subject ( Read more... )

You're views and situation with religion are so similar to mine it's shocking. But the one thing that's different for me is that I can not committ myself to believe in anything or against anything. All I can say I believe in is the need for a common good, and the power of a person's mind, and the infallibility of the physical world.

Well, I definitely believe in everything you just mentioned. What exactly is it that I'm committed to? (for or against?)

" Yes, I do believe in God as a higher power."

If I took that statement too literally, I apologize.

Oh no, no need for apology. No reason for one.

But yeah, I guess I just see it as something else, like there's something more. A force? I don't know what term to use. But yeah basically, I see it as everything. Nature, the universe.

Well like I stated before, I believe in a higher power, but only as something completely seperate from religion. Although I also believe in "the need for 'true happiness,'" I don't think religion is required to attain that (I know you don't either don't worry). But yeah, I think that the main problem IS human misinterpretation. Like I said, who knows if Jesus ever stood up and truly said "I am the Son of God" like many claim he did; I personally think that he just viewed things differently than everyone else, and in such tough times (Roman invasion) he was their only source of hope. All I'm saying is that when one really stops to think, religion, unfortunately, is more a of a negative source of energy or hope than a positive one (on world average, I'm not saying everyone because I know it does good for many).

p.s. I love you Nita.
p.p.s It's Spring Break! I'm thinking something along the lines of Barnes & Noble, Coldstone, long drives, who knows? Yes? I think so =).

I agree with a lot of what you're saying about religion and Jesus, although I'm not clear on why your mom sat you down to talk about the Pope.

But I don't suffer any illusions about IB. I talk a lot more about the kids in the program than I do about other people.

Yeah, well my mom and I pretty much about anything&everything, and the Pope happened to be on the news at that very moment because he is sick and was in the hospital.
