Before I continue, I should note that after two days it has become very clear that in a class of about 300 students, there is a clan of about 7 very vocal liberals in the class that aren't shy

It's funny you should mention that because the last time I was mistaken for a Republican was when I debated with Alan Keyes. Many years ago, when he had that show on MSNBC, I used to call in and heckle his agenda. I got him to say some pretty outrageous stuff on the air about gay rights and birth control. Anyway, when he started running in Illinois, he was campaigning at Union Station one day. This was back when I lived in the suburbs, so I commuted daily. On my way home, I saw him shaking hands and stuff and I couldn't resist. I walked up to him and asked if he remembered my voice. He said he didn't, but who would? Anyway, when the cameras were on, I managed to engage him in a five-minute debate about healthcare, women's rights, and religion in schools. I pushed him so far over to the right that he effectively implied that poor people don't deserve healthcare, public schools should have a religion class, and the woman's place was in the kitchen.
