Most religions are based on fear. If people knew that no matter what they did, they would still end up in heaven, then they wouldn't be as good.

its not the fear of going to hell.. its just about following their belief which would be.. if you do all of that stuff like smoking, drinking, cussing, blah, blah, blahhhh.. than you are going against your beliefs and doing wrong.. so take a number cause your going to hell.. i have friends that are religious,.. o my very religious.. but they do all of the stuff you mentioned.. and think "well i can just repent the next morning, jesus will love me again".. but yeah their dumb because that idea is dumb.. still its all beliefs.. if you "believe" you are doing good.. heaven it is.. if you "believe" you are doing bad.. hell down below.. well, shit happen.. but good thinking.. cause you got me thinking.. and i don't do that often.. good job.

im with you, (at least i think im talking about the same thing) those who over zealously adhere to their religious beliefs tend to be considered "good" for their "good morales." however, the "good" is soo subjective. people who swear, drink, smoke, and do other things are perfectly capable of being good people. its all in how they treat other people.

i mean.... george bush is a born again christian and osama bin laden is a devout muslim. neither are good people. :)
