And this is where we find our peace; Or this is where we are released

To break from the more serious posts that I've made recently to catch up on life events, etc., I present a much sillier topic: my penchant for nerdy swag!

....holiday sales are bad for my wallet xD ThinkGeek.com is having a 4th of July sale (20% off $40+ orders in addition to putting an absolute fuckton of stuff on clearance) and so I added some Portal 2 and Star Trek: The Next Generation flair to my apparel collection. I had bought Brian the Blue / Science Officer hoodie as part of this year's birthday gift because it had been on his wish list for a while and couldn't help but admire how warm it was as I wrapped it. Although that color is much more to my liking, I opted to take the gold / Operations Officer hoodie since my two favorite characters (Worf and Data) both donned that particular uniform. Good thing I got paid today because it wasn't cheap (although the 20% discount meant that the Portal shirt was essentially free and that definitely softened the hit to my credit card) ^.^

Additionally, I bought my ninth woot shirt, which celebrates my profound appreciation for ditching pants and also a nice, subtle nod to the recent marriage equality ruling.

7/4/15 edit: So... today's woot shirt was too good to resist, swiftly bringing my total into double digits. I'd be ashamed about overloading my graphic tee drawer, but let's be real - this one was a no-brainer.

I owe all these interests to Brian; he has marathoned all of the Star Trek series on Netflix at some point since we've lived together, he introduced me to Portal/Portal 2, and he told me about shirt.woot.com after I fell in love with one of their (many) featured shirts on an episode of the Big Bang Theory (it was this one, which resulted in my first purchase from the site along with two other designs lolol)... Good man, that guy.

Unrelated to nerd-themed swag but still on the topic of buying stuff- I should confess that over the past five years (crazy to think that we became PA residents 7/10/10) I've amassed a gigantic collection of Vera Bradley products and Converse sneakers. I can definitely identify my obsession with the former beginning once I moved to Philly and started seeing a lot of my girl friends and coworkers using bags for vacations, work, and everyday accessories. As for Converse, I'm pretty sure I already had a couple pairs before the move but having fairly regular access to an outlet store (as opposed to only going once every six months or so when visiting Perin up in the Poconos) meant way more frequent stops to the clearance section of said merchant and increasing my sneaker collection by at least one hue of each major color. I'm only missing yellow at this point, and the count is up to 17 pairs. I really shouldn't be so proud of that, but I do my best to rotate them so that they all get used relatively evenly. I even bought a pair specifically for the wedding:

Anyway, those are some of the things I like to blow my paychecks on that make me happy.
