Ok, first up, many thanks to all of those who responded when I was a tad stressed out last week. it is much appreciated. Having finally tracked the Landlord down (on Tuesday - he was in Austria), the leak was finally fixed on Friday. Much to my relief. Turns out I needn't have worried about the flat down below as a) it's empty, and(b) it's owned by my landlord. Oh well.
Anyhow other bits and bobs. Family history continues apace. Turns out that one of my great great great grandfather's married his cousin. Which thinking about some bits of my family explains an awful lot. Also managed a bit of a break through on my grandfather's paternal grandmother's side, who seem to have done their best to hide themselves in the Dorset countryside through most of history. Think I've finally got them pinned down on the 1851 and 1861 censuses, just need the 1841 one now to confirn a few bits.
I was vaguely channel hopping through Sky movies the other day, when I came across "The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns". I think it qualifies as car crash TV. What were the Irish film board thinking? Did someone convince them that it would be a serious, insightful look at Irish mythology? (And just not mention the whole Romeo and Juliet with fairies and leprechauns mneets the Quiet Man (with Randy Quaid for John Wayne) bit? How desperate for cash was Colm Meaney that he actually agreed to play "Seamus Muldoon, the Chief Leprechaun?". And who thought of scripting the line "To be sure" for Whoopi Goldberg to attempt in a cod Irish accent? Truely frightening stuff.
