I'm a bit disappointed to see Neil Gaiman's dismissal of objections to his friend Jonathon Ross MCing the awards ceremony, and his linking to an "explanatory" page from Rich Johnston, who feels that despite Ross's many relevant achievements (... a history of being un-PC and some parody comics?) he's "not good enough for the fans it seems, who fear Read more... )

Speaking on behalf of my godson, I must say that he has, to my knowledge, never harassed women for being sexual or fat or disabled or politically powerful. Mostly he saves his toddler harassment for women who insist that it's time for bed and/or give him a time out (I suppose that could be construed as being politically power, though!).

Also, Wilde had sympathy for women who were sexual--see his plays!

The older i get, the less i care for Gaiman. I'm not sure if he's changing, or i am, or both. (I'll admit an active dislike of Amanda Palmer doesn't help. Some days it seems like he's adopted her 'all you people who are mad about this are jerks and/or wrong' defense.)

(And, you know, i'm sure Seanan McGuire is happy to hear Neil's 'oh no, surely he wouldn't have been rude with you in the room' excuse. Because it's fine if he saves his making fun of larger women for other times? Ugh.)

I kind of feel the same way, and I'm inclined to say it's him as much as it's me.

I really am starting to see a level of famous people and their friends who elevate themselves so high that input from other sources if a friend fucking up just isn't welcome. Everything in that sphere is comprised of beautiful nice people who don't do bad things.

This conveniently prevents them from noticing that the chorus of people in the cheap seats cheering them on are dudebros and dudebro enablers.
