For those of you who don't know, I went to GREECE for some of my spring break. I now have a new appreciation for the phrase 'it's all greek to me'. It's so strange to be in a place where you don't even recognize the letters, let alone the language. I tried to learn a few greek phrases before I went but that was a total disaster. Greek is HARD. But I feel proud of myself. I got myself to and back from Greece in one piece (although I did have a travel partner). I stayed in a sketch part of Athens (Athens' answer to China Town), walked back from the ferry at 1:30 in the morning, endured 18 hours on a ferry, saw Julia Bakutis randomly at the port in Santorini, walked to the the top of the Acropolis, met a Norweigen (scroll to the very bottom of this page: http://www.varsang.com/English/Who%20is%20Lises%20Veranda.htm ), rode the Itailian railways... actually I really didn't do anything that amazing. But Greece was still pretty cool. I kind of went on a whim and it is weird because I have never had any affinity or strong interest in Greece or Greek culture.

Anyways- here are a few pictures to get you started. (more to come!)

At the National Archealogical Museum in Athens. The bronze age in Greece.

Roman Ruins!

Parthenon

Hadrian's Arch (also roman)

Agor Ra

Athens is a fucking big ass city

Cute little Greek market. The greeks seem to have mastered the art of 'convience store' and the ones there are very similar to the american kind. This isn't really one though, just a normal store. Note: Notice the lack of refrigeration for the eggs.

Greece was a lot more like the US than some of the other European countries I have been to. They drive everywhere, aren't really pedestrian friendly, and drive small and mid-sized SUVs (mostly jeep cherokees). They also have convience stores. It is a very interesting place. I basically ate Baklava, spinach pie, and Gyros (pronounced 'YEE-ro') the entire time.

PS- Just in case you have forgotten what I look like, here is a reminder:
