May Day is a pretty big holiday here. It is like labor day, a day to celebrate the worker and take pride in your national heritage.
I went to a 'Maibaum' (may tree) festival. It was pretty neat. Lost of Liederhosen. putting it up was serious biz-nass
They cut a fresh tree this morning.
A guy whose sole purpose is to sit on the tree while they erect it. He is also supposed to tell jokes and stuff. A kind of May Day Jester.
Maibaum supervisors.
Maibaum is erected.
Despite it billowing and swaying in the breeze, the Maibaum is quite safe and is not at risk of falling over. It is at risk of being cut down by nieghboring villages.
