It's quite simple, really, some douches have found my LJ and enjoy commenting anon BS on my entries. I don't like douches. Nor do I like them reading what I post. My stuff's always been public because all of two people have ever read my things

You can actually change your settings to who can reply, who can view your content, and other things.

I had to resort to having to change who could reply to my entries TWICE (once I changed it to non-LJ users/anonymous couldn't comment due to one event, then again to screened entries (nobody can see other people's replies unless I un-screen them) due to another event. The next time something childish happens, I'm just making my journal friends only. -.- I've had enough.

I prefer having my stuff public because I reference friends to posts a lot, but none of them have LJ accounts, so if I post it friends only or something, then they wouldn't be able to see it. As for comments, those are logged so it pretty much blocks anon/non-account commenters.
