I really hate New Years, I dont drink so for me its a case of "Ok, so everyones going to go out past midnight and get utterly trashed, how is this different to the other 51 weekends of the year?" Theres a relentless pressure to go out and HAVE FUN, ENJOY IT, ARRRGGARBLEGARBLEGARBLE.
I cant do it, as soon as someone tells me to do something I automatically about face and dig in, determined to do it another way, or not at all.
Christmas, Christmas I can cope with, despite the inevitable let down over just how lame my presents end up being and jealousy of seeing the huge pile of slightly more awesome stuff my siblings get from in laws and better halves
Yeah, I'm naturally contrary too. Not that I want to break rules I just hate being told to do something one way. When I was a kid I used to wear my shirts backwards, just to make the point that my parents' rules were entirely arbitrary.

Lessie... if I wanted to write an rpg, it would most probably suck if I had to write one in a specified time frame, it'll suck more if Whedon, Laws and Pratchett wrote like me, they wouldn't be famous So I guess I'm supposed to write with my own style.
Look Steve: Van Gogh was depressed, but he was Van Gogh! That's is the idea: write like Van Gogh! :-)
RPG setting 75% done with no progress in months Adventure 80% done with no progress in weeks Original RPG 30% done and continuing to expand More focused variant on the RPG now in progress Short story completed but waiting on revisions for a month Short story with impending deadline . . .
And, my only Halloween plans involve handing out candy when the doorbell rings.
NaNoWriMo works for some people, particularly people who are looking to jump start their writing. It sounds like you've got plenty going on and, like me, that you'd benefit from focusing on finishing some projects.
Hang in there.
