I hear that you got real lucky with the Lyme thing, some people end up having nasty chronic problems.
That's cool that you reenact--my current SO used to do cavalry down there. (He says the reenactments up here are pathetic.) WHich unit are you with, usually?
I act as an auxilliary ti the Chesapeake Volunteer Guard; I'm not really a member, but their Adjudant and #2 guy is Andrew, my best friend from college. I go as a reenactor maybe once a year; I make it to two or three events total (camera in hand, so they can see how awesome or dumb things were). I'm convinced they are all utterly nuts; but I like my friends that way. :-)
Yeah, I caught the Lyme early, so it died rather than take up residence in my joints or nervous system. Had I figured it out two weeks later... hrm. Could have been bad.
The promotion is sort of a Sword of Damocles; I get better paid, but will be commuting nearly three times as far from my new place. My intent is to hold the position for maybe six months, and then get a new job with an equal or better pay scale and say 'hasta la vista, baby!' to the MSC. It's been fun, but I'm sick of living below the local poverty line.
No, the promotion doesn't get me over said line; just closer to it.
