So. Much. Wrong. I know the country does its citizens great deception by celebrating the country's birthday on a day when we simply just said "Um, let's be independent." "So, we're independent now?" "No, silly, we're just declaring it. The 1/3 of us who want to be independent will have to fight a war." "So, THEN we'll be independent?" "No, THEN we'll be our own country. We're already independent." "But we haven't fought the war?" "Trust me, in 200 years, no one will care."
Now, as confusing as that may be to most, it still doesn't justify not knowing the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. And the related time lines.
Yeah, the compulsory educational system in our country is sorely lacking. I don't know how people don't at the absolute very least know that the Declaration of Independence was 1776 and the Constitution came later.
I had sincere difficulty not laughing at these people last night.
