Jun 05, 2009 12:56

Fandom: HIMYM
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100 x 5
Pairing: Ted/various
Summary: Ted Mosby's romantic journey can be summed up with five kisses.
Dedicated to: roland44, the biggest Ted fan I know! (This can also be considered an extremely late birthday present. =D)
AN: Written for him_tbbt_100's latest challenge (prompt: kiss). Also, this is the first fanfic I've written and posted here in two months. Wonder why that is? =P

(Purple Giraffe)

“There’s no off switch,” Robin tells him.

She’s smiling coyly, all shiny hair and lip gloss and sparkles, bright blue eyes dancing as they look at him, so of course he leans forward and kisses her.

No feelings here, he thinks. Casual. Just two acquaintances, sharing a stolen kiss in the moonlight on the roof, only she’s beautiful and vivacious and perfect and he’s desperately head-over-heels in love with her already...

He breaks off the kiss, still holding her close.

“No, there’s not,” he breathes, forehead still pressed against hers.

For the next two years, he’ll wish there was one.

-------

(Something Blue)

She tells him she’d have his babies, that they could have them together in Argentina. He makes a joke about Hard Rock Café t-shirts and for a moment it sounds so plausible, this life they could have.

They both know it’s a lie.

He wants kids. She wants Argentina.

They can’t have it both ways.

Their expiration date is drawing closer by the second, becoming more and more visible as the seconds pass. It’s about to tower over them.

But he kisses her anyway, trying to hold on to that last thread of hope that they can make it work.

-------

(No Tomorrow)

“I’m married,” she mentions casually before pulling him down for a kiss.

His eyes go wide, but he doesn’t pull away. He waits for his moral compass to make that usual warning klaxon sound, but tonight it seems to be broken. The fact that Ashlee’s married has barely made a blip on his radar. Because he’s drunk and she’s beautiful and a really good kisser, and he’s so tired of moping around in his post-Robin phase.

He needs to stop being sad and be awesome instead.

Thank God he has Marshall to slap some sense into him the next morning.

-------

(Miracles)

Stella leaps onto his hospital bed, straddles him, and captures his mouth in a kiss. His body still aches from the car accident, his neck is sore from the whiplash, yet he wraps his arms around her waist as her hands run through his hair and she moans softly into his mouth.

This morning, he’d been so afraid to commit to attending a November wedding that he’d dumped her. They’d been moving too fast, he’d thought. Go slow, or not at all.

But he almost died that afternoon.

Now he just wants things to go as fast as they can.

-------

(Ted’s wedding to the Mother)

There they stand, side by side at the end of the aisle, white veil framing her beautiful face as the preacher walks the two of them through their vows.

He’s gone through so much, he thinks through the buzz of happiness he feels. That frustrating search for the One that’s consumed so much of his life is over now. He’s finally found the perfect woman, his other half, the Lily to his Marshall.

So when the preacher tells him he can kiss the bride, he knows it’s all been worth it.

His whole journey has culminated in this perfect moment.
