To bang or not to bang.

Apologies for not posting this sooner (big thanks to denyce for poking me), and EVEN BIGGER APOLOGIES for dropping the ball on this challenge last year. Some RL stuff came up that I just really didn't handle well. Still kinda dealing with the aftermath of all that ( Read more... )

they should be given the same kind of control in a reverse bang, if they want it.

Well, yes. It IS a reverse bang after all, the point of which is that the artist should have the same amount of control over how THEIR work is interpreted as authors have over their writing in regular bangs. How would an author take it if their artist demanded that they give up their original story . . . just to make things easier for the artist?

Allowing the artist some control in a reverse bang is only fair.

First, yes on both as a writer and co Mod if you still want me. Last year was my 1st reversebang and overall it was fun ( ... )

I'd love to participate as an author again. I'd second (or third) comments about not having too many details to write to. 'Would like to see or wouldn't want to see' comments are a useful guide and can be an inspiration, too many details becoming limiting - I would liken it to when I do a conventional BB, yes I give the artist my story to work with, but they get to pick the parts of it that inspire them - I would never expect anyone to illustrate the parts of the story that I choose. If an artist wants to work more closely with me, and be more involved with the process of generating ideas for writing, I'd be willing to try that, making suggestions of how different ideas might play out for instance and add to the inspiration process as part of an ongoing conversation - I've had ongoing conversations with some artists who've not necessarily wanted to have input but have wanted to see a story grow from the inception on seeing their art for the first time to finished piece ( ... )

I don't know if there would be a way of making it practical but when it comes to art claims, would it be possible to show all the art made but when one of an artist's pieces is chosen , they are both removed from the selection, until everyone has had one chosen and then put the unclaimed pieces up for a second round. Perhaps pieces could be listed with "Artist 1 Piece A" and "Artist 1 piece B" to make it easier for people to keep track of claimed pieces? I know that could make it tricky if a lot of claims are coming in at the same time. It seems a shame to limit artists to one piece if they are inspired to make more, but it can be problematic for authors write for more pieces depending on time scales and other commitments. I find a lot of my stories grow far beyond the minimum requirement and I wouldn't want to cut them short, but that means I can rarely tackle a second piece, except sometimes as a pinch hit. I wish there was an easier solution to that aspect of the problem as I would love to have both more to write for and more to ( ... )

1. I'm of two minds about having all these prompts and only getting half of them stories. On the one hand, I'm kind of concerned about what happens to the pieces that don't get claimed. I don't want anyone feeling like they wasted their time and effort. On the other hand, it gives artists the freedom to make more art if they want to make more, and puts less pressure on the mods who're having to run around trying to find writers for everything. Don't know, though. If there's an option for unclaimed art that isn't just leaving perfectly good fanworks out in the cold, then I'm all for it. Like, have artists write for their own prompts if they want to? Or let them do an art-only post when posting time comes around? Just as long as it doesn't get totally dropped/ignored, because that doesn't seem fair ( ... )
