part 2 no fool to continue..
He rushed through town. He had a meeting at Grimaldi Shipping and was supposed to attend a pitch at Worldwide later that afternoon.
He would be lucky if he could find some time to grab a sandwich. Busy was good, most of the time.
But sometimes he longed for some time alone, some private time.
When he wasn’t running from one meeting to the next, his mind would play games with him. He thought of things he didn’t want to think about.
His mind went back to times before, when he wasn’t alone and when the world didn’t just consist of working and eating and sleeping.
He had more to live for back then. He wasn’t alone back then, because he was there.
He sighed and walked into the building, thinking perhaps he would take some time off.
He sure could use some time to relax, but for some reason the thought of him being alone in his home was too much.
That is why he preferred to keep his busy schedule.
But his life was getting ahead of him. It had been months since he just relaxed-slept in, walked around the farm,
went for a swim in the pond, had a family dinner. Because even after all this months all those things still reminded him of........
"Luke, are you alright?” Luke turned and saw his right-hand man at Grimaldi Shipping approaching him.
"Sorry Tom. I got distracted for a bit but I’m ok, thanks."
"You know you should take some leave. Things will go alright here.
There are no major deals planned and you sure could use some time off. , You have been working almost non stop for the last few months since..... .
" Tom stopped as Luke's facial expression froze. "…well I better be off now,” he added and turned quickly to walk away.
Luke breathed out. He knew he scared Tom away with his non-verbal reaction, but he couldn’t help himself.
He always did have trouble containing his instinctive reactions.
But the moment somebody would mention anything that even referred to what happened a few months ago, he just froze.
He couldn’t deal with the emotions that ran through him thinking about what happened. It had been such a mess, and when he thought of it,
he still felt like at that moment 6 months ago he had lost his reason for living. He had been too scared to grab the opportunity he was offered,
and he was now living alone, alone in his cottage surrounded by beautiful trees that reflected the seasons.
He had been riding home from the farm one day and took a different route, and there it stood-a small cottage everybody seemed to have forgotten about.
It was owned by people who no longer lived in Oakdale, and they had seemed to have forgotten about the cottage themselves.
The moment he saw it he knew it should have been theirs-, or his...
So he asked Tom to find the owners and agreed to pay whatever they wanted for it. He didn’t care, it was supposed to be and was going to be his.
Once the cottage was his, he hired contractors and decorators to make it livable. It was so run down after all the years it had been vacant.
But the most important thing for Luke was that he could create a home for them-, or him…
He asked for advice on how to rebuild the structure, paint the outside, and work the garden,
but on the inside it was all him and his feeling for the home he wanted to create.
Of course it had stung to think about creating it for him alone instead of for them together.
But he didn’t regret for a single moment that he bought the place and made it his home.
Perhaps he indeed should take some time off. It had been too long since he had been able to just relax, to sit in his garden,
to watch the small animals who seemed to take up living in his backyard or on his grounds, to see the leaves in the trees sway with the wind,
to read a book, and if he was honest, perhaps to write a few lines.
He missed the images that swirled in his head. The words waited to pour out of him.
He hadn’t been thinking of writing anything for ages, even before he had left to go to LA,
but for some reason he was beginning to think he should try something.
He was ready to make some changes. He walked into his office and asked his personal assistant to come to him.
"Will you do me a favor? Clear my schedule for the next two months and ask Tom to join me for a quick meeting."
His assistant Paul stood there with a shocked look on his face, which made Luke smile. "Yes, you heard me right.
I asked you to clear my schedule for the coming two months.
You will report to Tom, and he will know what to do and how to reach me if he and his staff can’t work it out themselves."
Paul’s shock turned to a smile, and he left the office to walk back to his desk. He called Tom and asked him to come to Luke’s office.
Seems like things are about to change around the office, Paul thought, and he couldn't help himself smilng with the opportunity
to be able to see a bit more of a certain person in the coming months because of that change.
