Just popping to say hi - where has the time gone? I haven't even been seeing that much, but here's what I have been:

* Saw Pennsylvania Avenue at the Opera House starring Bernadette Robinson. I've been a casual fan of hers for a long time - she's an Australian cabaret-style singer who has a knack for accents and impersonations, which I enjoy very ( Read more... )

movies, theatre, the frumious cumberbatch, daas, philip quast, tv

Hi bros, like, I might have married Warwick's daughter and all, but now I'm back! There's a lot of that in the histories, IMO (and some of the non-histories, too). Like Richard III and Anne--WTF. The Ian McKellen one with Kristen Scott Thomas as Anne is the best spin on it I've seen and he basically drugged her for it. I'm interested to hear how you think this Richard/Anne goes ( ... )

While I think I read Richard III long, long ago, and am aware that he somehow manages to woo and wed Anne, I have no memory of it, so it'll all essentially be new. Which is fun. I hope *g*

Bless you for reading about DAAS - they still remain dear to my heart. Since you're a fellow musical fan - I think - let me just share with you pretty much the exact moment I fell for them. Jesus Christ Superstar in under 5 minutes (obviously you might not be interested, which is perfectly fine too *g*)

Note that while Tim sings most of it, Paul is by far the better singer:

Monday in May - hee, yes, I did kind of understand that the ideas "diffused" into general fashion, but I think it's the unusual, shall we say, method of displaying this particular kind of art - via parades rather than galleries - that makes fashion an unusual form. Again it makes sense that it be seen on moving bodies, because that's an integral part of the underlying design, but I think it's always intrinsically clashed with my existing ideas of what clothes are "meant" to ( ... )

I saw DAAS on TV a few times back in the day, there was an Australian-themed edition of Friday Night Live which featured them, Dame Edna, and a woman stand-up called Wendy. They turned up a few more times on TV highlights of Just For Laughs and similar shows - at the time we had so many comedians in Britain (this was when comedy was the new rock & roll) that we didn't get to see many from elsewhere, they were probably the only non-Brits I recognised.

Oh, god, I loathe Dame Edna, but I do like Wendy Harmer! It's true, isn't it, fashions come and go, and comedy was a much bigger deal for a certain period back then. I know they did do a bit of work and touring in the UK, so it's cool you recognised them :D

Feels wrong to leave such a small comment to this lengthy post, but basically, \Margin Call/ glad you liked it.

Hee, honestly I feel like I've harped on it a bit too much over the years, but that's probably just because I'm writing the posts *g*

Glad you enjoyed it! Well worth watching imo. I'm afraid I'm not into gaming, but it's noted.

Thank you SO MUCH for saying that, lol. As a tech type, for want of a better term, the idea of "designing" something that doesn't actually fulfil what might seem to be its intended purpose was baffling. Next up - a cooking demonstration of how to make chilli-flavoured baby food using a pan that doesn't heat, a knife made of jelly, and a colander without holes (not to be confused with a bowl). I'm kidding, but that's how alien the idea is, or at least, was, to me. I do get it much better now *g*

I've seen the Hollow Crown, and I'd like to say that I loved BC on his own acting mentally disturbed but the smartest among his brothers.. that was powerful performance. I think it was a big thing for Hollow Crown making the monologues of Richard III addressed to the audience like he was speaking to his Iphone camera. It felt so real it was scary. I was impressed by his acting, not to say hypnotized by his anger, his feelings, his inner power. It felt like magic watching BC on screen acting like he did!

I loved Andrew Scott as King Frances. He is so hot in a crown, I can't help myself thinking sexy things of him. *blushing*

I have no problem with that, I'm pleased you're enjoying it!

I enjoyed AS, but I'm really not into facial hair, so the sexiness escaped me. Well, at least he finally got that crown ;)
