Wow, long time no update - still around, though, and reading lj. In the absence of studying, I seem to have taken up reading books again, which is nice :)

I don't know if this was intended for me, but this is the one and only comment I got - no anon ones :)

Ah, interesting that we both strongly suspect Pulley of having written fanfiction! She seemed to share so many of my buttons in terms of use of language and imagery and also handled the relationships so delicately. I wonder which fandom(s)? If I knew what else she'd written, I'd track it down and read it all.

You didn't mention that in your review, only that she had beautiful writing, so I came to that conclusion independently! So it's nice that you thought so, too - yes, it's difficult to explain the "feel" of fanfiction while still being entirely literary - but this book definitely has it.

The Lady In The Van is a good read.

She was a very memorable character! And an interesting side of Bennett, who I really only know from The History Boys.

Haven't read nor seen any of these. I just finished rereading To the Ends of the Earth and was greatly moved by it once again. Decidedly literary but hey, that's what I like.

And I greatly enjoyed Captain Fantastic recently, except for the last 10 minutes or so when it all became a bit too horridly sugary-sweet. But before that it was great, very moving and even interesting in a way.

Most of all I'm mentally gearing up for S4. I do so hope it's going to be good.

And I do hope you're doing fine overall.

Interesting, I wouldn't have expected you to be interested in that (it really didn't look like my thing, so I barely gave it a second glance). May I ask what inspired you to see it?

I honestly haven't given any thought to S4 for some reason - I guess that will only seem 'real' once premiere dates are announced! As long as Mycroft is okay, I will deal with whatever it is *g*

And feeling mostly back to normal, thank you, but for a slightly different version of 'normal'. Hope all is well with you :)

May I ask what inspired you to see it?Well, I've always been interested in people who go against the grain in their own way. My favourite novel ever is Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate, which I heartily recommend. :) Anyway the history of the novel itself is already breathtaking ( ... )

Well, the library does have a copy, so I've noted it, but given that our tastes rarely seem to coincide I'm not expecting too much! But I do like seeing what other people enjoy, so thanks for sharing :)

and not going along with the latest craze for swiping your debit card instead of using PIN when paying for somethingHee, I've never owned a debit card, but surely cash would be even more rebellious ( ... )

I really liked Don't Breathe, in all its fucked-up-ness. (Why couldn't he smell the smoke on Rocky? I thought with how much they made a point of her smoking, it'd be more of a thing.)

Oh, good point! I didn't think of that at all, but yes, you'd think it'd be a giveaway. If I ever see it again I will remember to look out for it *g*
