they're all just getting it wrong. The secret to having a sucessful, large, noneconomic draining family is to form them into a band or a sitcom.

Everybody knows that.

PS the only scary offensive thing about said above post was "the extra drain on the rest of us from their brats infesting the world." I agreed with everything else. But I'm the baby whisperer, man. I love those little brats. All of em. even the wierd mormon ones.

For me it depends on the kids. A lot of kids are cool, but some I classify as "pollution"

Of course, if anyone could take an "infestation of brats" and turn it into a bunch of cool kids, it would be you! :-)

I actually like the idea - but then I also have my days where I think people should be tested for common sense before having kids!

I wonder if you could make it so fertility clinics had to pay a fee if the treatments resulted in a litter of babies.

I like that idea too, but who administers the test? The government? Shudder.

yeah - I love the idea - but in practice it's a quagmire that really can't be solved. There is almost no way to have balanced questions for a test like that that don't step on someone's toes.

I don't personally have a problem with large families, mostly I have a problem with the families who are so large and cannot afford to be. While I don't think the government has a right to step in and say no more kids, their should be community awareness and programs that help parents prepare for having kids and recognize their responsibilities (monetary and otherwise) in becoming parents ( ... )

A lot of Planed Parenthood clinics used to do those kinds of education programs, but the fundamental right wing has taken away the funding in order to push their idealistic "only teach abstinence" shit. (but that's a whole other post for another day...) I have always been a believer in having to take classes and take a test before being allowed to spawn. Unfortunately, that would put the government in control of yet another thing they should keep their slimy hands off of. I mean, if we have to have a license to drive a car, which is an inanimate object, why shouldn't we be required to have a license to rear a LIVE human being. The human race will NEVER make sense to me.

before I opened my mouth, because I too assumed Planned Parenthood was more than just an abortion clinic, I looked them up on the interwebs to make sure I wasn't making a generalization. The site had nothing on it about actually planning to become parents. It really was just links and information for contraception, hormonal and otherwise, and abortion options. I didn't look too hard, so somewhere might be more of what we imagine as Planned Parenthood, but from what I saw, there wasn't.

I am disappointed in the least. You'd think any pro-lifer, or at least anti-abortionist, would embrace anything other than abortion. And that Planned Parenthood would be more about planning for parenthood than what I saw. Nope, its all just contraception and abortion.

Doesn't make any sense at all.

Well I do know that when we were in Stockton, i went to a Planned Parenthood for my Gyno exams and such and they had a TON of literature and workshop type of things that had to do with more than just contraception and abortion. It has changed since then I know. Its angering that people take this kind of thing so lightly.

Might change it to 4th-5th for no tax credit instead of 3rd-6th. Other than that, very creative and I like it. And that money could save the public health system that is stuck making sure that these kids get taken care of.

I'd sign!

I agree with you about the children thing, but I believe that particular show is because they had twins, then sextuplets.

But that's only 8, not a dozen. So no idea.

My feelings are if you want that many kids; adopt.

You're thinking of "John and Kate Plus 8", and I agree. I don't have a problem with them. They were aiming for 3 kids and ended up with 8. I'd certainly support an exception for people in that situation.

The show I'm thinking of was titled "Kids by the Dozen" (I think). They were talking about a family with 13 kids and the mom was pregnant again.
