There are storms and blackouts tonight in New York which means that I can't get home. Parts of the subway are down and apparently there's no power above 86th St, so its pointless even trying. Luckily, my friend Em who is a fellow volunteer is staying in a really nice brownstone just one block down from where I'm working, so I've come here for

Giant Roaches...

Oh yeah, they are amazing in a hideous way. The used to be euphemistically known as 'water bugs' and it was believed they could fly. I never actually saw this, but I still swear one hissed at me.

sounds like a real NY experience! talking about roaches, one summer we had a plague of the little buggers. Not so little either, they love hot weather and were reproducing like crazy. The overcrowded old buildings of Barcelona, full of interior patios, airshafts and holes where people have done botch-job electricity and plumbing work, are ideal for them .........
