what i miss the most about being in ecorps is coming home from work tired and filthy, cleaning up, and going out to a punk rock show, where i could get rowdy and come home tired and sweaty all over again. there have been many jobs and tasks i have had to perform where i pretended to be doing something else. for all that was wrong or annoying ( Read more... )

currently, i desperately want to read the thousand and one nights but i am not sure what volume i want to start with. i know Burton's translation is ubiquitous but is it a "selections from the..." type of book or do you have a specific volume? (the other day in a bookstore i found "Volume XI" or something so it worried me that I wouldn't be at the beginning.)

anyway i hope big bend is alright! i am in Chennai, India, about to take a three-day train-ride up to North India. weee

well wouldn't you know i am currently obsessed with Borges. and if you like him I highly, highly suggest anything by Gene Wolfe. his Book of the New Sun series or any of his short story collections.

thanks for the update from india!

i just bogught a 'selections from' the burton editions, and theyre pretty good. borges, who wrote a lot about the nights, said that the best way to read them was story by story at random rather than straight through, so i figure a collection is as good a way to do it as any.

also, a guy by the name hadawy (sp?) put out a collection of his own translations which are supposed to be pretty good.
