when I was a child, six or seven. My family moved to a new house, in the backyard was a rattlesnake preserved in lucite sunk into the back yard as one of a number of stepping stones for reaching some flower beds at the edge of the back yard.
I remember breaking the lucite (in retrospect it was probably some less sturdy material) with a rock. My Dad seemed rather sad, I have long felt ashamed by that action.
i think the worse thing i've ever seen was really the aftermath of something terrible. when i was in highschool i was walking through the school's parking lot and i saw a dead sparrow stuck in the grill of a hideously large, expensive truck. some kid with too much money and too little sense had hit it and it's fate was to be the hood ornament of a flashy truck.
