peak oil, privileged environmentalists and self-applause: Escape From Suburbia?

We watched Better than Chocolate tonight, which has always been a really sweet movie. Jimmy liked it, too. I like lesbian films way more than gay guy ones.

THEN, we bought this atrocious film called Escape from Suburbia. What a piece of crap. It was utterly tedious to watch the profiled folks drone on and on with all their wonderful ideas ( Read more... )

I haven't seen the movie myself, but I thought I would throw a few random points out there:

Moving to Canada isn't anywhere close to as easy as just crossing the border.. like any nation these days, there's lots of time and money involved... still, with Canada (unlike practically anywhere else), it's sometimes possible if you have a degree and are already employed.

Canada is far from a liberal utopia. Canada has lots of problems, even if they are less than those of the United States.

There are plenty of Conservatives in Canada... we even have some in power right now, although they have proven to be largely incompetant, except in the arts of holding onto power (and even there, their skills are shaky)

Why move to Canada to join an ecovillage? Why not start one in the US? It may even be easier (I don't know).

I have always wondered why lesbian identified people would want to be men? (like any_bodied_men lesbian feminist group) I wondered what was so wrong with being a woman? My perception of women is as being higher far above men. My physical neuro genetic issue was that I am male and feel a penis and testicles and I had parts of the opposite sex that I was not percieving. I wish I was female! Female roles are much easier and much more priviledged than male ones, there is no doubt about that! All guys know that! I wondered what was so important to these lesbian feminists about pretending to be a guy? Women are stronger than men, women are more intelligent than men. where do they get it from? It's not a physical issue to them but merely a social one. I cannot imagine going through a sex change for social reasons rather than real neuro chemical physicl problemed issues, you know?

Uh, dude? How do you get from border crossing issues to crazy talk about gender issues? (and you're wrong there, btw)

Maybe you're just trying to stir up something on a year and a half-old comment. If so, I'm not going to play that game, k?

I'm open to talk about the topic at hand though.
