History:
((Most comics are notorious for alternate universes, different perspectives of characters with different writers, and spinoffs that completely disregard a character's original history. X-Men is no exception to this rule, so Angel has several different interpretations. I'm going off of the main canon, but I might adopt a few aspects from different X-Men universes for his disturbed personality.))

Wikipedia article

Warren was born into a rich family. His father, Warren Worthington II, was the CEO of an incredibly large company, dealing mostly in stock trading, banking investments, and financial consulting. As such, Warren grew up in the life of luxury, and was sent off to a prep school as soon as he was old enough to attend. Somewhere around thirteen or fourteen years old, his mutation began to manifest- two small abnormal nubs began growing out of his shoulder blades. He started losing weight at a frightening pace as his bones began to hollow themselves and he started completely losing his body fat. Afraid that he was becoming a mutant, Warren didn't seek medical help, and instead tried to conceal his growing wings under large clothing and heavy jackets. And he might have grown up hiding his secret from the world, had it not been for the dormitory fire.

A deadly fire started in the boys dormitory, and a classmate of Warren's was in danger. Reacting on instinct alone, he stole an angelic costume from the drama room and flew for the very first time, saving his classmate and returning him to the ground, unrecognized and safe. It was then that Warren got a taste for heroism and adventuring. He continued his heroic escapades at night under the alias of The Avenging Angel, while continuing to attend prep school during the day. It wasn't long, however, before he was recruited by Charles Xavier, and joined the X-men. His canon never stated if his father was aware of this or not- it's quite possible to deceive people when you have telepaths on your side- but I'm going to go under the assumption that Warren Worthington II did know about his son's whereabouts and assumed that the Institute was the best place for him to be.

Warren was the cause of a lot of friction in the X-men--used to a cushy and rich life, outspoken, and constantly trying to woo Jean Grey away from Scott Summers, not to mention his regarding Wolverine as animalistic and beast-like. He leaves the team and returns on a number of occasions in the future, and yet he always returns because there's always a piece of him among the X-men.

A few years after he first joins- at around seventeen-, he finds out that his uncle, Burt Worthington--also known as Dazzler--murdered his father and poisoned his mother in attempts to claim the Worthington fortune. It's then that Angel comes out to the public as a mutant, though he is unable to do anything about Dazzler at this time.

He's helped to found the Champions and the Defenders through his money, both of which were disbanded after a series of deaths within the group, before he assisted in starting up the X-Factor- a team which would later be his undoing. His long time friend, Cameron Hodge, who helped him run the X-Factor, worked behind his back to fuel the anti-mutant feelings in the population by showing the X-Factor as mutant hunters for hire, which wasn't true. Another conflict with the brotherhood of evil resulted in Mystique exposing that Warren was funding the X-Factor, leading to a massive nightmare in public relations and making his company's profits drop drastically.

Perhaps the worst event to come out of the formation of the X-Factor was the destruction of Warren's wings during the Mutant Massacre. In a war centering around Dr. Sinister's attempt to eviscerate the Morlocks (a species of mutants who hid underground because their physical mutations prevented them from interacting normally with other people), via the Mauraders. He used Gambit, the then-leader of the Marauders, to lead his team in an attack against the Morlocks. After hundreds of casualties, the X-Factor and X-Men got involved.

During the conflict, a marauder named Harpoon, pinned Angel's wings to the wall with large energy-spears, tearing holes through them and devastatingly crippling him. Before Harpoon could strike the finishing blow, however, the thunder god, Thor, intervened and saved Angel's life. Angel made it out alive, but not without bitter memories and almost daily pain in his wounds.

I'm taking him just a few weeks or so after this, while he's still wounded. He's able to fly weakly, but it causes him a lot of pain, so for the most part, he keeps his wings concealed and bandaged.

Personality:

Warren was born into wealth, and the confidence and easygoing nature that goes along with it are major parts of his personality. He's always been somewhat of a pretty boy, not bothering to hide his easy attraction to others, nor is he afraid to use his wealth to help out the X-Men. He's not selfish, as the common stereotype goes, and often financially backs the various mutant teams he's on. After Professor X's disappearance and the destruction of the Institute, it was Warren who funded for the rebuilding of the school, even though he was off the team at the time.

He never bothers to hide his thoughts or distaste for something or someone, and as a result, leaves the team on a number of times due to friction his outspoken behavior has caused. However, despite all that, he does deeply care about his teammates, and often puts his life on the line to protect them. While he can't exactly be called altruistic, Warren has the hero complex, and loves the thrill of saving people, and if he has to be a member of the X-Men to do that-- well, so be it.

He's also quite the charmer. Warren's first love was none other than the Omega class mutant Jean Gray, who was already in love with Scott at the time. After unsuccessfully attempting to woo her away from him, he set his sights on Candy Southern, and then finally, Psylocke. His flirtatious nature is more refined than most, however- Warren is a hand-kissing, soft compliments kind of guy, rather than the type who attempts to win someone over with a roguish wink and a few dirty comments. He comes across easily as a gentle pretty boy, but is an almost notorious player among the X-men, and really does love good company.

Despite all that, his one true love is flight itself. He fell in love with flying on his first successful flight, and has never been able to even imagine going back since. Later on in his canon, when his wings are amputated, Warren seriously contemplates suicide, and in turn, signs himself over to be the horseman Death for Apocalypse, just to get his wings back.

For his disturbed personality, I'm not so much altering things as I am taking him from one of his lowest points in canon and tweaking him a bit. Flying is painful for him, he's realized that his best friend and college roommate has been against him this whole time, and he's watched several of his friends die or be extremely hurt in the past month. This affects his personality in several ways- instead of smooth, confident, and easygoing, he'll be more hesitant to trust people, he'll initially try to conceal his wings and hide them from the other disturbians, and he'll probably be a little more withdrawn, though not to the point of brooding or anything.

The loss of his financial status, which has always been a boost for him, will also affect him negatively- unable to throw money away as he had before, I can imagine him being a lot more stressed and frustrated than he is in canon. As for actually being disturbed, these shifts in his personality are more inherent than they are in his canon, and a trace of them will still be left, even after he regains his ability to fly- he'll never be fully mentally healed from his experience as a cripple and the betrayal of his best friend, despite fully recovering from them in his canon.

Mutation:

Powers: Angels is a beta level mutant, meaning that, while his powers are potent, he doesn't have explicit control (AKA, he can't retract his wings whenever he wants to). Beta mutants make up just under 10% of the mutant population, and have extreme potential, but with minor flaws not found in the Alpha mutant category.

Wings: Obviously, flight would come with having wings. When his wings are fully developed and healed, they have a sixteen foot wingspan, and are fully feathered, like a bird. They also have a flexible skeletal structure, allowing them to fold back easily and press against his body. He is able to fly by flapping his wings, gliding on thermals, etc, and thanks to some intense training by Professor X, Angel is also a master of high speed indoor flight, capable of hairpin turns and maneuvers in narrow hallways. His average speed is about 70 miles an hour, and is capable of reaching 180 miles in a dive. If he exerts himself to his full potential, Angel can fly at 150 miles an hour for about half an hour before he has to rest. Although he usually flies under the cloud coverage- 6,500 feet- he can reach 10,000 feet without much effort. At his extreme limit, he can reach 29,000 (the height of the highest recorded bird in flight, the African goose), but can't remain that high for longer than five minutes. He can fly for about twelve hours straight before he absolutely has to rest, and he won't be going up in the air for a few days afterward.

Flight adaptation: His entire body is fully functioned towards his flight mutation. His bones are hollow, like a birds, and he has absolutely zero percent body fat and an extremely high metabolism. His eyes are adapted for sight in a high speed wind, and his lungs have a special membrane which can extract oxygen from extremely high altitudes.

Strength: Warren is capable of carrying 500 pounds while in flight, and has increased muscle mass to make up for his little body fat. His muscular system produces specialized chemicals that put his stamina level above that of a normal human, allowing him to fly for hours at a time at his peak without exhausting himself. His body is also adapted to resist friction of debris in the air at extremely high speeds, meaning that his skin is slightly toughened more than the average human.

Disturbed alterations to his powers: Okay, I'm going to cut in here and say that some of the powers the creators have tacked onto him directly contradict one another. Increased toughness and the ability to get up minutes after a crippling crash with hollow bones? No body fat, but increased muscle, so the loss of weight from his lack of body fat means next to nothing in terms of flight?

So, I'm going to be changing things around a bit--he believes that his resistance to crashes and offensive attacks is dramatically lower than they should be in canon, and his muscle mass is going to be slightly less to reduce his weight enough to allow him capable for flight. Instead of five hundred pounds, I'd say he'd be able to lift three hundred, probably a little less while flying- enough to carry another adult male, but that would be pretty much his limit.

While running into walls is never fun, Warren's body will still be adapted for flight crashes, or suddenly falling out of the air. Sure, he'll collapse into a feathery heap, but since he is much lighter and slightly more durable, he'll be able to get back up and limp home- though this is also influenced by his healing factor, mentioned in the next paragraph. This durability doesn't really help him in fights, however--his hollow bones are a hindrance to him while fighting, though it balances out with his slightly increased strength (once again, not as much as he's shown to have in canon, but more than the average human).

I'm also going to give him an extremely high metabolism- due to his zero body fat and strenuous exercise, not to mention the eating patterns of many different birds, Warren needs food to function. A lot of food. Not enough to where you're thinking 'giant', but definitely more than you would expect from looking at him.

Healing Factor: This is Angel's secondary mutation, and has not developed yet from where I'm taking him in canon, though I plan for it to develop while he's in Disturbia. An advanced healing factor runs through his blood, and helps him repair damaged tissue and wounds with a lot greater speed than a normal human. He can completely recover from non-fatal cuts and gashes within a few hours, leaving just a scar, and severe injuries- such as broken bones- heal in a matter of days. This does come with a stipulation, however--Warren has less time to make sure that his bone is properly set, and his wounds are clean before they heal, or it can have negative effects on his body (ie, a bone healing wrong, a healed wound developing an infection). As before mentioned, his healing factor travels through his blood, and can be spread and transferred to his blood- thus, Angel is able to heal other's at the same rate as he heals via a blood transfusion, providing they have a matching blood type.

Fighting skill: In addition to all of that, Warren has an extensive knowledge of martial arts. His father had paid for lessons when he was younger, and dating a ninja has its kicks. He's trained a lot with the X-men in physical combat, and as such, is incredibly capable of defending himself in hand-to-hand fighting.

Notes:
Gangrene: In his canon, Warren's wings develop gangrene, and are amputated shortly after I'm taking him. However, after he is given steel wings and transformed into the Horseman Death by Apocalypse, Warren (who adopts the name Archangel) develops a healing factor--shattering his steel wings, his feathered wings are shown underneath, completely new and regrown. From this, I'd say that the amputation was premature, and if given time to allow his healing factor to develop, the wings would gradually heal, even through the gangrene, as long as he was given proper treatment. A month, maybe two, before this happens?

Money: Warren's company pretty much made all of its money through the buying and selling of stocks, and in this aspect, he is an extremely accomplished businessman (named one of the top 500 businessmen in the world, in his canon).

Threadhopping: I don't have a problem with it ^_^
Giving this character a hug: If you want to? Watch out for the wings though, they're still pretty sore.
Giving this character a kiss: Unless he hates you. I'd prefer you talk to me first, but Warren isn't shy about his kisses.
Punching this character: Please talk to me first, whether it be IM or lj-message. You can even shoot me an e-mail if you're so inclined. Honestly, I'm almost always up for a fight log, but I'd love to be warned first? orz
Maim/Murdering this character: Yeah. Please discuss with me first. Raelet is not totally loving of godmoders.
Anything you DO NOT WANT mentioned in front of this character? Nope! Of course, there's some touchy subjects with him- mutations, treating 'different' people badly, rich-boy stereotypes, and his view of himself as obsolete- but other than making him slightly irked, it's not off limits.
Anything you should know about this character? Special features, fighting skill? Other than the GIANT PROTRUDING WINGS, nothing out of the ordinary. When he's concealing them, he'll appear almost hunchbacked and sometimes has issues with his balance. He has straps tying his wings down to his body, if you manage to get his shirt off 8D. But he is able to snap the leather straps and unfurl his wings in a heartbeat, if need be. Please see the powers section for anything further regarding special stuff XD.
Touching Angel's wings: Yes yes yes. He doesn't mind you touching his wings in a nonthreatening manner- it's actually kind of pleasant, like someone touching your hand or cheek. If you do, expect to feel feathers, feathers, and.. uh... more feathers, stretched out over thick muscle. Very soft.

Thanks! ^_^
