I haven't seen 300 yet, but it's interesting that you mention Death of a President.
The uproar surrounding that film was truly upsetting to me. The first hour was an incredible film, important for our generation, a generation that hasn't lived through a tragedy like that. It wasn't about Bush at all (at least for the first hour, before it devolved into self indulgeng crap), but about how a nation reacts to an event like that. The footage of Bush on that evening was very positive and painted him as very human. Outside of some crappy, pointless CGI manipulation on Cheney's face, it was stunning.
But instead it was immediately criticized as liberal propaganda, which it certainly wasn't.
Well I've heard that 300 has taken a lot of flak because of Frank Miller's political stances and what Iran had to say about the representation of Persia in the film. It was fun though, I had fun.
It's just a movie though, like DoaP is. Although it's unprecedented to make a movie about the assassination of a sitting president, I think I'm willing to look beyond the concept in this day and age. If the film is able to survive in the marketplace, it should be given a chance to stretch its wings.
