This is so much more than Kyle Whelliston explaining why he came back to do another season of The Mid-Majority. It may be the best opinion piece I've ever read. I say "may" because sigma7 wrote a few good ones himself back in the day. This one reminds me of those.

Thanks much, but I certainly don't deserve quite such high praise. I think everything was just shinier then because we were all younger and our synapses were less jaded.

I'm liking the Whelliston piece a lot -- am going back through it a few more times hunting for a bit more nuance, and I'm a bit envious now, because there was a time when I was capable of being this kind of creative and I'm not sure if I've burned out that part of my brain or I just forgot. But I enjoy the essay that's the classic essay -- an attempt, something that tries to explain something and ends up in nine seemingly unrelated places before it ever gets to the original target. I appreciate that.
