I spent the last two hours of today reading through old journal entries and listening to music, and every now and then when this happens it's like a sickness that I can't stop once I start and most of the time it ends up making me feel like crap, but sometimes, it makes me just think, Thank God. I remember who I am again. Tonight, that moment came ( Read more... )

Lately I can't stop listening to The Tallest Man on Earth - "Shallow Grave". So good. Also, I don't know if you've heard of The Avett Brothers, but if you haven't I think you'd really like their album "Emotionalism"

I can upload them if you want and recommend a dozen more!

YESSSS Avett Brothers!!! Not just Emotionalism, but all their albums. I've been out of the Livejournal loop for too long, but since I last got on here, I've seen the Avetts play twice -- once at Merlefest in N.C. and once a few weekends ago in Cary, when the show was sold out and we had to jump a 12-foot fence to see them play. Good times.

Also: anything by Modest Mouse.
Tyler Ramsey, "A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea." He sounds kind of like Nick Drake except with more layers to the music.
Radiohead "In Rainbows." Google it and you can download the album for free from their website. I think it sounds like swimming underwater.

And...I'm spent, but I know I'll think of like 10 more once I log off.

I fluctuate between these two things as well. The sort of "Fuck money, I'm just going to put this on my credit card and pay it off later because I'm so tired of not doing the things I want to do because I'm poor" and then "Oh shit, I am in so much debt and all I can eat is vegetables and ramen for the next 5 years of my life because I can't afford food, let alone anything else."

Lately I've been saying fuck it and buying concert tickets and going out and actually living and doing fun things. I guess it helps that I have someone to do these things with now! My reading in bed has been replaced by drinking and music :) I'm sure that will swap back after a couple of years.

Really good record:

yes yes! i think my problem is that i've been in the "i'm just going to put this on my credit card and do whatever i want because life is better that way" phase for like FIVE YEARS and it's starting to actually catch up with me and i'm trying to not make those decisions as much.

but yes to drinking and music! man life is fun with those two things! haha. and kathy today, who of course always puts things in better perspective than my emotional head can, was pointing out that we have a lot of fun here in different ways - less friends to have crazy times with like in boston, but since we have a car & everything is so beautiful here, we've been able to explore everything and take so many little day trips and stuff and yeah, it's just been awesome. and i actually really love reading in bed, so i suppose i shouldn't complain about it! hah. mainly i miss music & concerts, so i'm really going to try to include it/them in my life more.

& thanks for that link! i knew you'd have good recommendations. i think i'll definitely check ellis out.

I'm totally diggin the new Death Cab album Narrow Stairs. But one of my all time favorite albums that you might like, is a Joan Baez album, called Ring Them Bells. :)
