Hyukjae put out his cigarette on the windowsill, the one that he lit only two minutes ago. He couldn’t remember when he started to smoke. He hated smokers, so why was he puffing a little roll of death?
Donghae.
That was reason. Three months ago, Donghae departed without an explanation, leaving Hyukjae behind to face the wrath of Seoul.
Seoul was a city of dreamers and it wasn’t too kind to its residents. Hyukjae remembered coming here three years ago in hopes of reaching his dreams. How naïve he was and how deceitful the glimmering lights. But everything became better when he met Donghae, the one who always laughed, always smiled. The decay of the city never wrapped itself around the younger man.
Sighing, Hyukjae picked up a rainbow-sprinkled doughnut that he bought earlier. He chewed mournfully as he stared at the bright lights of the city. The streetlights, the tall skyscrapers, the stores. They all added to the illusion.
Hyukjae took another bite of his doughnut. He hated sprinkles. They reminded him of the city lights, of the artificiality of his dreams. They burned the roof of his mouth, but for some reason, he couldn’t seem to stop.
