CHARACTER NAME: The Doctor
FANDOM: Doctor Who [T.V.]
CHRONOLOGY: End of "Big Bang"
CLASS: HERO!!!!
SUPERHERO NAME: Oncoming Storm
ALTER EGO: Whatever he thinks of if he needs one!
BACKGROUND:
In 1963, two concerned teachers followed a student into a blue police box in a junkyard and met a daft old man who called himself the Doctor.
What little that is known of the Doctor's life has been taken from snippets of scattered conversation through the years, but even as those snippets are given out one must always remember rule one when dealing with this man: "The Doctor lies." So, who is this mysterious old man who lives in a box that happens to be a time machine? He is the last of the Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey, a people so old it is rumored they created this universe as it is known. In childhood, like all good Time Lords, he looked into the heart of darkness -- the Void of all that is, will be, and could be, and fearing that power he ran away and landed on of all places Earth.
The Doctor has always carried a certain fondness for the human race and their little blue planet. He stands against those who would do the planet harm because he knows how very important humans are to the universe. Tucked away in his TARDIS he travels time and space helping beings who cannot or have not yet learned to help themselves; perhaps this is why he continuously finds himself back on Earth!
Throughout the series the Doctor moves from a rather grumpy old man to a bohemian vagabond to the Destroyer of Worlds. This transition is made much easier do to the fact that Time Lords have the ability to regenerate into a new body and seemingly new personality. It's not clear how often a Time Lord can regenerate, recently the Doctor mentioned 507 times, but then let's not forget rule one. Regardless of body and personality the Doctor always has with him a companion to travel with; showing them sights and wonders they could never dream of back home. He is in his hearts a lonely old man and in his darkest moments it is his companions that keep him sane and remind him there is still wonder out there.
Because his history is so long and complicated this is but a brief synopsis of the world of the Doctor.
Running away from Gallifrey in a stolen (ahem, *borrowed*) TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space) along with his granddaughter Susan, the two find themselves on Earth keeping a low profile by playing human. When two of Susan's teachers, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, discover the pair and the TARDIS the Doctor kidnaps the two so that his alien secret would remain. During their first adventure together the TARDIS breaks its Chameleon Circuit leaving the ship stuck resembling a blue police box. Luckily it's still bigger on the inside!
The four travel space and time meeting aliens that would become allies and those that would become some of the most dangerous enemies the Doctor would ever face (Daleks). During a visit to 22nd century Earth Susan leaves the TARDIS to live a normal and safe life on Earth and eventually Ian and Barbara were returned to their time as well, although there is a widespread rumor that the pair haven't aged a day since the 60's. The Doctor gains two new companions from Earth, Vicki and Steven. This cycle of losing and gaining companions is a constant throughout the Doctor's life. Sometimes the companions chose to leave (David) and sometimes they are lost due to death (Katarina, Sara, Jack) and occasionally he must leave them behind for their own good (Donna). Every companion touches that spark of the Doctor that holds hopes and optimism in the universe, and every loss of a companion closes him up a little more so that he won't get hurt. This is the way of the Doctor, traveling with companions and saving worlds, and occasionally needing to regenerate when his is nearly killed. It is in a way a rather carefree life and the Doctor is happy to live this way, but when he returns home for the final time it scars him and embitters him in a way nothing to date has before.
It was a "war with the Daleks against the Time Lords, and the whole of creation at stake" (DW 2006). The exact events that led up to and during the Time War are shrouded in mystery as the Doctor isn't one to reminisce about the destruction of his world. Lasting for years throughout time and space there seemed to be no end in sight. Some say it was the Doctor himself who led the Time Lords into battle. Worlds were destroyed in a blink of an eye. The Daleks seemingly lost their leader Davros early on, but that did not prevent them from continuing the war. Even as he fought on the side of the Time Lords the Doctor continued to try and save those around him but to little or zero success. The Time Lords resurrected those they believed would help win the war, like the Master who had been a childhood friend of the Doctor and upon looking into the Void was driven mad, and Rassilon who founded the Time Lord civilization.
It was Rassilon who pushed the Doctor to end the war in one of the worst ways possible. The megalomaniac leader planned that all Time Lords should ascend and become beings of pure consciousness destroying all creation. Planets and people were killed in a single instant, even Gallifrey succumbed to destruction. In an effort to finally end the war before there was nothing left the Doctor time-locked the war creating an impossible prison for all of time and making him and the Master, who had ran away during the war, the last of the Time Lords. It was, therefore, quite a surprise when the Master, now completely mad, nearly brought the Time Lords back into existence, but at the cost of Earth. Upon discovering he had been manipulated his entire life, the Master gave his life up to lock away the Time Lords and end his torment.
Weak and now dying after having saved the grandfather of his former companion Donna the Doctor was forced to regenerate into his twelfth incarnation. The TARDIS having also been severely damaged rebuilt herself, although the Chameleon Circuit still didn't work. For all intents and purposes the Doctor was truly alone without even a companion to lean on.
Luckily the TARDIS landed in the garden of seven year old Amelia Pond and suddenly the Doctor wasn't quite so alone!
Series Five
Amelia Pond, a little ginger girl from Scotland who is all alone in a new place much like the Doctor. Is it any wonder these two connect so fast? When faced with a man from space who climbs out of a police box she stands tall and brave, why there is nothing that frightens her...except maybe the crack in her wall.
While the Doctor learns about his new body Amelia shows him the crack which is a doorway to an alien prison planet, not that the Doctor recalls right away. In fact he's far too busy getting sorted out and offering to take Amelia with him; all he needs is five minutes so the TARDIS can get its bearings. While Amelia waits all packed to go the Doctor suddenly remembers about that prison planet and rushes back to warn her, but he arrives a little late -- by 12 years. Little Amelia is not longer so little, nor is she Amelia. Going by Amy she works as a kiss-o-gram and even has a boyfriend, Rory. Somehow, even though he's not quite done "cooking," the three manage to return the escaped prisoner back to its guards, but not before the Doctor reminds the guards that Earth falls under his protection and the best thing for everyone would be for the Atraxi (guards) to RUN.
The TARDIS' cloister bell rings and the Doctor is off for a quick jaunt around the moon returning for Amy two years later the night before her wedding to Rory. With his new companion at his side the two take off for adventure and after a rather life threatening run in with some Weeping Angels and another crack, but this one in Time, Amy attempts to kiss the Doctor finally revealing that the next morning was her wedding day. Shocked and not wanting become tangled with another companion (Rose Tyler loved him) he interrupts Rory's stag night and rushes the two off on a romantic getaway to 16th century Venice where the three run into vampires, or rather Saturnynians who disguised themselves as humans and who tell the Doctor they were fleeing from the crack and the silence.
Next the three find themselves stuck in a dream world where they must figure out which world is real and which is fake before they die. It is here the darkness in the Doctor is revealed as the Dream Lord is actually a part of the Doctor created by Psychic Pollen. In the dream world Amy reveals her love for Rory after he is "killed" and she admits that a world without Rory isn't one she wants to live in. The three escape that world and discover what they thought was real was also a dream, and waking up the Doctor releases the pollen from the TARDIS.
After a few more adventures which have them saving Earth and then a pre-industrial planet the three are ready for a break and the Doctor promise to take them to Rio de Janeiro. Instead the TARDIS veers off course and lands them in Wales were a drilling operation wakes the underground Silurian inhabitants. While trying to prevent a war between the two races, Rory sacrifices himself to save the Doctor and is erased from existence by the crack in the wall. Amy cries for him as the Doctor pulls her away, and it isn't long before she forgets Rory ever existed.
With Amy having forgotten Rory, the Doctor takes her off on more adventures and the pair saves more lives and worlds. Wanting to show her the first written words in existence in the universe, only see a graffiti message for himself from the doubly mysterious River Song. Following the message, the pair arrive on Earth in the 2nd century C.E. in a Roman encampment in Britain which is led by Cleopatra. In reality Cleopatra is River Song in disguise and she shows the Doctor a painting by Van Gogh showing the TARDIS exploding. Determining that this is a warning the Doctor searches the area for the mysterious Pandorica, a legend which has been following him throughout his new incarnation.
Unknown to any of them, the Pandorica is a prison created by the enemies of the Doctor to hold him within and prevent his TARDIS from exploding (as they believe his is the only one who knows how to pilot the ship). However, River has taken off in the TARDIS which lands her back at Amy's home where she discovers the entire set-up including a resurrected Rory was taken from Amy's memories in order to trap the Doctor. On her way back to help Amy and the Doctor, the TARDIS explodes, but keeps itself in status in an attempt to save River.
Back on Earth the resurrected Rory and the rest of the Roman army is show to be Autons, alien plastic who only believe they are real, and Rory is forced to shoot Amy. In the Pandorica chamber the Doctor is locked away and the moment the prison closes the stars disappear and their enemies vanish or turn to stone -- the TARDIS has exploded across time and space.
Outside Auton Rory holds Amy's dead body. His mourning is interrupted by the arrival of the doctor in a fez and holding a mop. The Doctor tells him that Amy is only mostly dead and can be saved if Rory uses the sonic screwdriver to free that Doctor. Following the future Doctor's instructions a confused Rory frees an equally confused Doctor. They place Amy inside the Pandorica with the Doctor whispering in her ear his plan, and taking River's abandoned Vortex Manipulator he tells Rory they'll meet Amy 2000 years in the future by taking a shortcut. However, Rory still feels guilty for shooting Amy and tells the Doctor he'll take the long way by staying behind and protecting the Pandorica and thus Amy in return. With a warning that he might go made and to stay out of trouble the Doctor jumps to the future.
This is where things get complicated.
Breaking his own rule of never overlapping his own time, the Doctor uses the Vortex Manipulator to ensure an eight year old Amelia Pond goes to the museum that houses the Pandorica and touches the prison, thus freeing Amy who was healed by the powers of the Pandorica. Amy and Rory are reunited as it seems that Rory did a good job of keeping out of trouble. Along with little Amelia the three meet up with the Doctor who heads back in time to tell Rory how to save Amy. In their own time a stone Dalek has been revived by the powers of the Pandorica and is hunting the group through the museum.
The Doctor tells the group that time is unwinding backwards and as if to prove this little Amelia vanishes. Turning around the group is met by an injured Doctor who whispers a secret in the current Doctor's ear before dying. Leaving the body the three head to the roof where the Doctor informs Amy and Rory that what they thought was the sun is actually the TARDIS exploding. Using the Vortex Manipulator the Doctor saves River (who kills his fez) and the group rushes back to the Pandorica as the Doctor has a plan! However, just as they round a corner the Dalek shoots the Doctor. Mortally wounded he sends himself back in time where he tells the past him his plan.
While Rory and Amy head to where the Doctor should be, River kills the Dalek without mercy. With the Doctor's body missing, River informs the other two on rule one when traveling with the Doctor: "The Doctor lies." In reality the 'dead' Doctor was making his way to the Pandorica and hooking the Vortex Manipulator into the prison with the intention of piloting the box into the heart of the TARDIS' explosion, thus recreating the Big Band and saving the universe. The only problem is that by doing this the Doctor will erase himself from time. With a final "GERONOMO!" the Doctor flies into the explosion.
Instead of dying right away, the Doctor sees his life rewind. Throughout this view his communicates with Amy although she doesn't know he's from the future. He reminds her to remember and to stay strong. When he finally meets a sleeping little Amelia he tells her the story of the daft old man and his borrowed blue box: "Ancient and new, and the bluest blue ever." Not wanting to see the rest of his life play out, the Doctor crosses to the other side of the crack sealing it forever.
Waking up on her wedding day Amy hugs her parents and gets ready to marry Rory all the while feeling as though she's forgotten something. During the wedding reception Rory hands her a blank blue book saying a woman gave it to him to give to Amy. Outside the window Amy catches a glimpse of River and starts to cry. She asks Rory why the woman would give her this book and he replies it's probably because of the tradition of "something old, something blue..." This sparks Amy's memory and she interrupts her father by telling the story of her imaginary friend the Raggedy Doctor. She says he was smart telling her that story, knowing that she would remember..."Ancient and new, and the bluest blue ever." With its 'Voop-Voop' sound the TARDIS appears in the middle of the hall and the Doctor steps out dressed for a wedding.
The reception continues and the Doctor proves that no matter how old you are you can still dance bad. Smiling at Rory and Amy he shows pride as he mentions the "Boy who waited" finally got his girl, and then he leaves for the TARDIS. Before he can enter the ship River arrives and expresses how sorry she is; that when they meet everything will change before using her Vortex Manipulator to disappear.
Thinking on her words the Doctor heads inside the TARDIS, but is once again interrupted, this time by Amy and Rory. He tells them that he still needs to find out why the TARDIS exploded. The phone in the TARDIS rings and he picks it up -- an Egyptian Goddess has escaped onto the Orient Express...in space. With a wide grin Amy says that this is goodbye, goes to the door and waves goodbye to Earth as she and Rory have decided to keep traveling with the Doctor.
PERSONALITY:
The youngest in appearance of all the Doctor's incarnations, Eleven (as I'll refer to him here on out) is also one of the most alien in personality. He takes his moniker to heart always popping into lecture most like a professor and guiding his companions to the "right" conclusion to a problem. Even though he likes to teach his companions, he often finds himself frustrated with their totally human qualities, like being unable to see beyond themselves. During these times he'll mutter about them being small minded apes, but at the end of the day he likes his little ape companions.
There is a real need for him to keep his companions around through his adventures. While he gets on fine without them, they constantly remind him of the consequences. The Doctor is so used to "flying" in and saving the day before "flying" off again that he has no concept of how he has changed worlds and the people on those worlds. There isn't time even for him to offer these people some form of help, but he does think of them and with his companions at his side to remind him that he hasn't just fixed a problem he's changed the worldview of people, the Doctor does his best to limit the impact he has for the better of all involved.
Eleven is all things personality wise. He teaches and he learns, he's childishly naive and yet he knows the reality of pain and loss. This is a man who understands what it means to be a Time Lord - "It's taken me all these years to realize the laws of time are mine! AND THEY WILL OBEY ME!" However, he has also learned, painfully, the responsibilities that come with holding the power of time in his hands.
Despite his youthful appearance there exists in his eyes and hearts an old man who ran away from his responsibilities only to be slapped in the face with them centuries later. He controls time, but can only understand it as a Time Lord; all the small things are missed or tossed away as unimportant. It is the job of his companions to remind him that even the small things are important to someone. Through his companions he has learned to not just recognize these small things, but to take delight in them.
POWER:
Canon (He's a Time Lord and they look human, or rather humans look Time Lord. DETAILS!) - Time Lords are on average more resilient to physical and mental trauma as a human in peak condition would be. Their senses are in tune with time, so the smallest detail such as when and where can literally be sniffed out by smelling the air or tasting the grass. Internally a Time Lord has two hearts, two livers, a respiratory bypass system they can consciously control, 26 ribs instead of 24 like humans, and a cooler core temperature. Mentally they are smarter than humans and most other beings especially when it comes to technology and language. They are also able to communicate briefly through telepathy, but this requires physical contact as shown through the series.
"Bow ties are cool." - His bow tie will change to match what he's wearing, the occasion, and occasionally his mood. This is the real secret to bow ties being cool!

COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:
[There's a rather piercing noise over the comms. The screen flickers on, but any view of the operator is blocked by a bright green light. A slight click and the noise and light disappear. The object - a screwdriver- is pulled away revealing a long, youthful face of a man with floppy hair and a rather dashing bow tie.]
Tricky, tricky Mrs. Porter. You know, not much can penetrate my TARDIS.
[A slight pause and a suspicious look.]
Actually, nothing can penetrate my TARDIS.
[A grin, but for those who can read this mystery man, the grin doesn't quite reach his eyes.]
CONGRATULATIONS! Not much surprises me anymore.
[He twirls around taking in the room.]
Ohhh, very advanced for, what-
[A bounce in place and takes a deep breath]
2010? No, that's not right. Something is wrong. Someone is playing with technology that doesn't belong here.
[There's that grin again, the one that never really reaches his eyes.]
Well then good thing you called me; I can fix that! Sort of what I do, and if you don't mind me saying (and of course you don't) I'm rather good at the fixing part.
[He looks down at the communicator as if just realizing he's not talking to the Porter, but to a network of people. A slight wink and finally that grin reaches his eyes.]
Don't worry, I'm the Doctor!
LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
The City.
Not much of a name, but it really laid out what this narrow little piece of Earth was about and the Doctor couldn't find any fault with that. He was growing rather fond of the place in his short time here. It helped that he had Rory about.
Good ol' reliable Rory.
Good ol' who continued to mention getting a job and to stop bringing 'junk' home.
The Doctor let out a light sigh as he thought of 'home.' It was getting a bit cluttered in his room, but really people threw out the most interesting objects, like televisions. What marvelous little machines; he was rather addicted to the show Days of Our Lives. Who knew these apes could be so full of intrigue and hormones. Well, he knew, but it was still fun to watch it all play out like bad Shakespeare.
He looked down at a hastily scribbled list entitled 'To-Do' and placed a large checkmark next to No more tellys, as for the job...He was the Doctor. Master of Time and Space. Savior of Earth and the Universe more times than anyone could count! (587 times to be exact) He could find a job on his own!
Standing up from the bench he shoved the little notebook with his list into a pocket, never to be seen again most likely, and happily entered through the automatic doors to his new job. Wouldn't Rory be surprised!?
Unlocking the door he ushered in a frail old woman who had been waiting outside the door marked 'Gift Shop.' With a friendly smile he nodded at the bright bouquet of sunflowers in a 'Get Well' vase.
"Flowers are always cheery when you're ill, well, unless they're poisonous flowers, then you're just likely to die instead of get better." At her horrified look he grabbed a stuffed bear. "Here! Teddies aren't poisonous, just fuzzy."
The woman paid and left in a hurry while the Doctor returned to his new job at the hospital gift shop.
Whistling loudly the Doctor smiled wide. Won't Rory be surprised?
